Sores and bumps on chin that won't heal
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. This summer Sadie has been getting these bumps on her chin (they remind me of pimples on humans) that open up and turnn into sores. Some will scab and then disappear, but there is one that continues to lose the scab and bleeds...especially when she plays. We are planning on taking her to the vet, but I thought that I would see if anyone else has this issue.

Do you use plastic feeding bowls?
Barney had the same thing.
We heard that the oils (fats) from the food could accumulate on the edges of the bowl and cause clogged pores when his chin made contact while he was eating. We got rid of the plastic and replaced them with ceramic and haven't seen a sign of the problem since.
Just for what it's worth. Good luck.

We went to the vet tonight and Sadie has ACNE!! Actually it's a staph infection that I guess is pretty common. We got antibiotics and a wipe that reminds me of the clearisil pads!
We have ceramic feeding bowls...we thought about that already, I guess that it's pretty common for dogs to get dermititis from using plastic bowls, but that wasn't our problem. Hopefully things will heal up in another couple weeks or so!

Brandy had the same problem. It was so funny she would wake up one morning with a pimple on her chin and it would last for a week or so. Me & hubby would laugh when we would jokingly say, "I am not popping it". LOL!

That's funny that what you said about "popping it." Our vet said that if it does get a big enough whire head that we could pop it and both my husband and I made the most disgusted face! Needless to say I don't think we will be popping anything on her face!!

Oscar gets these too. I took him to the vet yesterday and it was also acne, or staph infection. They gave us antibiotics.

Good news, Sadie has been on her antibiotics and we have been using the wipes for four days now and her face is clearing up really well. The open sores are finally scabbing over so I have no more little blood spots on everything. Hopefully now that we have the wipes her face on't get so bad in the future!

My Cami went through this a few months ago. After gettting a diagnosis from the vet, I did pop the pimples......what's a mom to do? After, I would apply a triple antibiotic cream and they cleared up. Now, I wipe her chin after she eats with a warm towel and the problem has disappeared.

Funny, Lupita gets those pimples too, I recently took her to the vet and he told me she has some kind of acne, but is not the same as the one people get, ( but I was thinking that some people get those too) he explain to me that these pimples are due from ingrown hairs. He gave me some kind of medicated shampoo and ointment called bactoderm to clean it up every day!
Dogs with acne... funny, uh?

Dakota used to get acne too on her chin. My vet gave me the best advice ever...go to the local drug store and get a bottle of Hibitane. Wet a cloth and apply a small amount to chin (or area affected) and gently rub on. Let sit for 10 minutes and then take a wet cloth and wash off. Do this for about 4-5 days to help it heal quicker and then do this once a week, your baby should be quite acne free!!
The Hibitane can also be used on humans for cuts, scrapes, etc. It is used in hospitals too and is quite inexpensive as you don't need much. Good luck!
