Giving Tomato juice for a green lawn??

I've read through the posts on lawn yellowing. The lady at Petsmart suggested we give the kids tomato juice to counteract the yellowing.

Nothing really on whether or not this is safe. My logic says that because of the sodium, the dogs drink more and therefore dilute the urine. This doesn't sound healthy.

Has anyone had experience with the tomato juice?? Is it safe or hard on the kidneys??

I think tomato juice changes the ph of the urine. I don't think it is really a good idea.

I tried it last summer. It didn't really seem to make any difference to the lawn, but then again it already had yellow patches so it was difficult to tell.

I didn't notice that my dogs drank more water than usual.

I think the best idea and the simplest is to keep a bucket of water near where they urinate and then tip it over the spot each time they go. The only hassle with this is remembering to re-fill the bucket so it's ready for next time!

I think I'm going to continue to do what I've already been doing...that is, train them to go in an area where we have pea gravel. Our only issue is that we have to really keep an eye on them cause they prefer to go in the grass.

I think that is the best thing. Scrapper pees on the bark area. No harm to the grass. But I still let him poop on the grass because it's easier to pick up piles from the grass rather than the bark. It took about three days for him to get the idea. No more burned spots on the lawn!
