Unhappy

I'm not really looking for advice. I think I'm getting the best I can get from my vet. I'm just sad. My beautiful little Lizzy appears to have a hole in the heart. She didn't present with any symptoms. The vet detected it when I took her for her 12 week needles. He kept listening and listening to her chest and I just knew something wasn't right. He says that he often hears heart murmours in boxers but that what he hears in Lizzy is very different. He says that it is like a whistling. She will have an ultra sound at 16 weeks and all I can do is love her and look after her. She is just as playful as ever although she is a bit underweight. It's very, very hot here now and we can sometimes hear this "whistle" when she is struggling with the heat. I called the breeder, and both parents had been tested. The vet says it's just bad luck. I've only had her for 7 weeks but I love her so much already.

Anyway, sorry to whine.......just wanted to get it off my chest I think.

I'm so sorry I don't know anything about this condition, but I know that in human babies they can do surgery to correct it....I also seem to have it in my head that it can correct itself, as the dog grows, but I may be thinking of something else. I'm sure your vet has given you all the information he has....we'll be thinking of you.

I am so sorry. I kind of know how you feel. Megan has a rare heart condition we found out when she was only a few months old. Although she shows no signs now and is very active that may not always be the case.

I, like you, decided that all I can do is love her and pray for the best. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep us posted.

So sorry, Denise. Maybe your baby will have a long life despite it. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
