Angry

I'm frustrated! My baby boy (Joxer)is 2 1/2. For years we have been fighting with allergies. I've tried everything. Diet, medication and shampoos to control itching. So far the only thing that seemed to work was putting him on Fish and Potato by Ekuanuba. The only problem with that is that he got seriously underweight and it was very expensive. Now I put him back on the Lamaderm, which he had no major problems with before,(the only reason we switched that time was because of foot biting, but even on the F/P he never stopped that.) Now the bumps are back in full force on the Lamaderm. He stopped bitting his feet when we got another dog, but after 2 months our new boston (who was 8mos) snapped at my 8 month old son for no reason, so we decided to give him up. Now Joxer is constantly bitting his feet and has broken out again. My husband is against another dog at the time till our son is a little older. So I am at a loss of what to do. He is on extra stength vitamins and takes hydroxyzine 3x a day as needed instead of cordizone, becuase of his past with demordex mange.
Now I know the bumps are probally related to food allergies, at least that is what I have related them too in the past. If he has chicken or yeast he brakes out in hives. (bumps) But why is he having problems with the Lamadrem if he had never had problems with it before?
If anyone can help, please give me some advise.....If you need me to send pictures of the bumps to help you better understand what I am taking about, let me know. I will be glad to send you some via email.

Thank you.

Aelundy,
I don't know if this helps. My Tina has also had a food allergy a few times, not that severe though. I consulted at the vet's and she recommended a new diet. It is rice or buckweet + beef + stewed veggies. You can't give rice and veggies at the same time. One day you have to give, for instance, rice/buckweet + beef, another day - veggies + beef. Potato is a no-no. Perhaps, you might try this.
Best of luck for you and your Joxer.
Hugs and boxer kisses from Tina

Thank you for your replys. He is on Vita caps plus with extra vitamin C. He can't take corizone shots due to his history with demordex mange, in some cases, it causes the mange to come back. He has been wanting to spend time out side lately, and my husband and I think that he may have either got bitten by something or is allergic to the grass. It is only bad on the one side. Usually when he has a food allergy he brakes out everywhere. I'm going to give him some benedryl this morning to see it that helps along with the hydroxzyine. I'll let you know if it improves.
Thank you..

Question

I wonder if it would be worth getting an allergy test done? Carol may be able to provide more info on this as she went through it with her boy. Here are a couple of sites on allergies and allergy testing which may help:
http://www.petinfocenter.com/allergi...gies_atopy.htm
http://www.b-naturals.com/wint97.htm
http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/medica...allergies.html

Hope Joxer is feeling better soon.

Unfortunately allergies seem to get worse as a dog gets older. I know people are having great success with fish oil, and you might want to start giving him that. You can buy it in capsule form, and put it right onhis food. It has great anti itching properties. I now give it to all my dogs just because it is so good for them...it's a great heart food, too.

Thank you all for the replys. The site you gave were helpful. I guess I'm going to have to put money aside to have the allergy tests done. In the meanwhile. I will try some more things, like the herbal remedies. I'll let you guys know how he is doing on the meanwhile with those

i stopped giving my two all vaccinations, except rabies (which i have to) and only straight parvo. nothing else, except the heartworm medicine. you wouldn't believe the difference in the clearing up of chewing, running noses, and upset stomachs. you may want to talk to your vet about this and see what they say pertaining to your dog's condition. sheralyn

[Now I have even heard of stopping his Heartworm Med. So I have stopped it. It is making me very nervous doing it, but I wanted to see how he did for a few months without it. He got in some chicken the other day and now he is a mess again. So more waiting... I'll let you know... Thanks for the advice.
