Has anyone's boxer had really red ears and if you know, what is the cause. He was on treatment for another ear infection and it cleared up and now his ears are extremely red. I plan to take him to the vet tomorrow, just wondering if anyone has any information.
No other problems are present. He's active and his breathing is fine. It just looks really uncomfortable..
Thanks

Indy has red ears all the time. He has severe allergies (his mom weaned him at 3 weeks and he was fed some sort of soy stuff). Anyway, our vet gave us some salve to put on them and they clear up just fine. I'm sorry I don't know the name of it. He hasn't had any problem with the deep inside of his ears just the upper inside (the flaps). Your vet should be able to give you something like that to use when his little ears get red.

My 2 thoughts would be:
1) Ear infection (but you said it was cleared up)
2) Allergies.
There are some products on the market that you can purchase from your vet. I have had good luck with both.
1) Tresaderm (ear drops
2) Otto-max (ear ointment)
Good luck

I was just down in Tuscon (Prince & First) (Sat/Sun) with Debo and when we got back home (Phx) his ears were RED! I thought he just played hard with his Lab/Rottie friend Jas - maybe it's something in Tuscon - he was outside a lot too.
Maybe just a coinincidene (sp?) but he's fine now.

Whenever Harley is running or playing alot, when it's really hot, his ears, tongue and gums become extremely red. I wonder if it has something to do with their circulation. He also gets really red in those areas when he eats something that he's allergic to.

Well Pancho went to the vet today and she gave him predisone (sp). We will see if that works. His inner ear is fine, its just the outer ear.
I'm glad to find out its not as unusal as I thought, the first night I almost took him to the emergency vet, that would have cost a lot!!!
Thanks and the more we talk about it, the more I learn.
