Boxer Acne

My 13 month old boxer Achilles looks like he has boxer acne on his chin and when he scratches them they bleed. Does anyone have any remedies that we can try?

Thanks

My boy Thor had that around the same age. First off if you are using plastic bowls, get rid of them. They get scratched and can harbor bacteria. Also try using a damp cloth to wipe his chin after eating. Some people use a mild soap or some polysporin ointment.

Diva used to get acne when she was a pup and as young boxer. From an early age and currently she gets her face wiped down with a damp cloth after every meal. Her eating bowl is ceramic and her drinking water bowl is stainless steel. I also remember getting a 'scrub' solution from the vet to clean her chin with - it did help, but I also do remember that when the acne used to get really bad as a youngster she would scratch and it would occasionally get infected, which would result in a course of antibiotics.

Wink

I feed him in a stainless steel bowl and the water bowl is also stainless. I also clean it out every day. I have been wiping his chin after he eats so hopefully this will help. He has a few scabs on some of them now but when he plays or chews on his toys they open up. I also heard that rubber can cause the acne as well but he does not have any toys made out of rubber. We are going to take him to the vet because I don't want them to get infected.

Boxer Acne

Just so happens I took my 18 month old, white rescue , Shay to the vet for the same thing yesterday. According to the doctor it is called "funiculitis" and it can appear anywhere that's moist. She also had a bout of it last spring between her toes and they can also get it from ingrown hairs. The Doctor gave her Enrofloxacin for her bacterial UIT and a shot of methylprednisone for the inflamation. She also advised me to leave the area clean and dry and not administer topical antibiotic ointment. Hope it helps and good luck!

We also switched to stainless steel bowls. It seems to be a "teenager" type problem. Rocco had a bad case of it where he needed antibiotics. After he was around 3 it seemed to disappear for good. Dino never had it. Rocco is the one with all of the allergies, so maybe that had something to do with it too.
