Vaginal Discharge

My 11 wk old female pup has a yellow discharge around her vulva after urinating. It is kind of thick and gets crusty when it drys. Is this normal in young pups?

I ended up taking her to the vet today. The vet said it is puppy vaginitis and it it quite common in young pups. She was prescribed an antibiotic which she has to take for two weeks.

Very common in puppies and don't be surprised if after the antibiotics are finished that she suffers from the same thing again.
Typically spaying is the "cure" for puppy vaginitis.

I agree with Cami. Puppy vaginitis is something that many female pups have up until they are spayed or go through their first heat cycle. Antibiotics almost never work; they sure didn't for my girl Caney when she had puppy vaginitis. Fortunately the condition is not harmful, wiping the area regularly with a clean damp cloth should be enough to prevent any secondary infection so there is no need for antibiotics.
