Coughing/Dry Heaving

Two weeks ago Tucker stayed over night at a doggy daycare. Last Saturday he developed a gagging cough. I called the day care to see if anyone had reported kennel cough (even though he had his bordatella shot, I know there are different strains) and she said nobody has.
The coughing/gagging happened on and off for a few days, but for the past 3-4 nights he's been waking up around 1-2 and doing his coughing/gagging every 5 or so minutes for the rest of the night.
Two nights ago he started making a snorting noise, as if he was choking and couldn't catch his breath, alternating between that and the cough, nobody is getting any sleep in our house.
We thought maybe it was allergies because he's been outside a lot recently, but its only been happening at night...

His appetite hasn't gone down, his energy level seems to be pretty normal, he's drinking water as well. We have an appointment tonight with the vet, but has anyone had similar experiences or have an idea about what might be going on with our pup??

Poor pup! It does sound like it time for the vet. Are you running your heater at night? It maybe the air is dryer and causing more if a problem. If so try to get a humidifier and see if that helps.

Sounds like Zoe two months ago. We called the vet and they said it sounded exactly like KC, but that it should resolve on its own. It didn't, and weeks later we ended up still going to the vet. Turned out she had a bacterial strain of an upper resp. infection.

I'd say just go to the vet, don't want him to develop a secondary infection (pneumonia). Good luck!
