Cataract as a toxic reaction? Please see photos

Cybe had a Corneal Ulcer on his right eye and some kind of infection. We went to the hospital again today and the doctor said it is almost healed. She then insisted on taking antibiotics for a possible infection. I told her how much against it I am cause I do holistic and Cybe is extra reactive to any kind of chemical. She almost laughed at me and pretended she didnt listen. This has been going on this month since I had my dog in for an emergency surgery cause a necrotic cyst in his elbow got infected. I didnt want anesthesia or antibiotics but it was an emergency. He had his normal reactions afterwards, chewing himself, itching etc but at least he was alive and healing well.

To make a long story short, after applying the medication she prescribed, Cybe's "healthy" left eye in less than an hour had a white diamond like shape in the middle. I checked internet photos and it looks like cataract. I also checked how cataract is formed and in an article it said that the third most common reason is toxic reaction....

Please check the photos I just uploaded and tell me if you can see if it looks like cataract or something else. I will certainly go to an ophthalmologist vet in the morning but I'm in great agony and really need suggestions on how to deal with it.

It's official. Cataract. Toxic reaction to medication. Yesterdays visit on the vet medical records: Eye clear with underlying infection. Today's visit to the vet medical records, after administrating prescribed antibiotic drop: Cataract! Amazing

That is horrible. I am sorry, what do they suggest you do now? I don't like to give meds if I don't need to. I am very leary of eyedrops. My boxer had a scratched cornea 6 months ago. She had eyedrop to dilate her eye for 2 days to stop pain. Well, her eye stayed dilated for 1 whole month, after confirmation from doggy eye dr, it is a side effect. I was furious, that was called Atropine (never use it) but she had antiobiotic too. What antibiotic was given to your boxer? I recently had to go to vet allergy related and her eyes were watery they prescribed an eye drop antiobiotic, I did not ask for, it is clear, not a color discharge, so i doubt it was infection, cause it looks fine now and I never used the drops this time around! Please let us know if this is reversable or not. Want to know the name of drug as well. This makes me furious and I feel for you.

Well... I will try to stay calm...

I wrote the hospital a big complaining letter. I'm expecting an answer. Unbelievable how irresponsible and arrogant they are. I went through a research and it seems that even if your dog dies from veterinary malpractice its probably not the case that they will be consequences.

Anyway. 3 doctors confirmed early cataract in both eyes. I read it is a toxic reaction (third but not the most common reason). There is an antioxidant some use "ocluvet" (the holistic doctor suggested it to me - its a bit expensive and I can not buy it now) which seems to clear cataract a bit. Its not in a stage that needs surgery. But cataract may get worse in hours! I hope it wont. I'm very against surgeries and if its only in one of his eyes I may try to just control it.

We ll see. For now it seems its ok. The Corneal Ulcer is totally healed. (Oh yes! In the ophthalmologists total surprise) I used the Remend for Corneal Repair. Buy it from the internet! The hospital charged me 3 times its price!!!!

I just read an article saying that intact dogs heal much faster, so maybe that is also a reason why everything healed. Hope the cataract stays small. I'm using GSE as antioxidant for now (food).

Er infections are back but flax seed oil and silver helps. I read about coconut oil and will search into it

Thanks for the update. Fingers crossed the Cataract stays the way it is and doesn't get worse. I am glad you wrote a letter of complaint.
