Thanks for the good vibes everyone! Trucker made it through his surgery just fine. He is now home, on the couch, wearing a cone & looking quite sorry for himself. He has a huge, 7 or 8 inch incision up his back leg. The vet still has no clue what it was. She said she has never seen anything like it. She doesnt think its cancer, or at least its not looking like what cancer usually looks like. Another good thing is it just seemed to be floating in there and not attached to a lot of his tissue so he did not have to have any muscle cut out. That will help his recovery and the function of his leg tremendously so we are thankful for that. If its not cancer it could be some random thing leftover from when he was hit by a car 5 years ago. Anything from a piece of bone fragment that was floating around, a foreign object that was left behind after his previous surgeries, or who knows what. She was so intrigued that she took all sorts of pictures of the surgery & mass. She thinks it was somehow related to a trauma but that has us stumped because he has no traumas lately (Trucker is a couch potato). Its crazy to think this could be something that's been brewing for 5+years. They sent it to the lab to be analyzed so hopefully they will figure it out.
Nano is still sick. I cancelled her vet appt yesterday because she seemed to be doing better but then she did not eat last night again and puked three more times. So I called to get her in today and the Dr is not in. So we have an appt for tomorrow. She was scaring me this morning because she kept shivering. But she IS keeping water down and her attitude seems fine, she wanted to play tug of war this morning, but as soon as I gave her a cookie it came right back up. So I don't know whats going on with her. My guess is that two weeks on that clavomox really messed her tummy up. I hope that's all it is...

Perhaps some Pepcid would help Nano's tummy a little? Just an idea. I'm glad Trucker's surgery went well- keep us posted on what they find with the mass. Sounds so bizarre. Hope his leg has a smooth recovery, sounds like a pretty large incision.

You know I did give her two pepcid this morning but 10minutes later I made the mistake of giving her a cookie and she puked. I sorted through the vomit to see if the pepcid came up and I did not see it. I was wondering if it would absorb into her that fast? I did not want to give her more since I did not see it come up. I will give her more tonight. I did not feed her anything more. I am just going let her rest and see if she eats dinner. I might make her some chicken & rice instead of her regular food.

We got Truckers pathology report and its not good news. It was a spindle cell tumor. The vet was surprised. There are two grades with this tumor low & high and Trucker's was high. There is no way of getting clean margins because she would have to cut so much of his muscle that the leg would not function. There is the option of amputating the leg but we would need to know for sure that the cancer has not already spread elsewhere in order for amputation to be worth it. To be honest my gut instinct says not to amputate his leg. I just don’t think that is an option for us. Chemo is not really an option for this type of cancer either because it doesn’t really respond.
I need to do some more research and talk to the vet again. She called when I was in the grocery store with my three year old son so needless to say I did not get to have the in depth conversation I would have liked to have. And the whole thing caught me off guard because initially it did not look like cancer. I just cannot believe we are dealing with this with two dogs at the same time and I am 34 weeks pregnant and due next month. Stupid cancer…

Geez, talk about being blindsided... I'm so sorry to hear the news. It just seems so unfair for you and your pups to have to deal with all this. Sending some prayers your way for a positive spin on this turn of events. Hang in there Trucker and Fluffy

Sorry it was not the news you were looking for, but you have peace of mind knowing so you won't always wonder "what if."
Spoil the heck out of her and give her lots of love.
