Angry Oh No!!!!

So.. our apt complex created a "dog park" -> a square of grass.
it's small, on an incline.
Snatch ran in the fence once.. now they learned the limits and play daily.

well... until today!

I just came back. Today, they added some "agility" stuff. But they are not agility stuff.. they are some hurdles (planted way too close to eachother to even be useful), a jump, a teeter, a tire and some.. stool looking thing...???

doesn't it sound nice?

Well, those stupid things are SOLID thick plastic, planted in the ground, sealed with concrete!!!
The park is already tiny, now there is no place for them to run.. but around those things...

So of course.. Here goes Ox and Snatch, running and within 30seconds : BAM!
Oxford smashed into one "hurdle" and yelp ...

He comes back limping..

Left rear leg this time - i am icing it right now...

SHIT!

I am so mad! I am going to talk to the office first thing in the morning.

:(

Sorry to hear that! It stinks that they did that, without knowledge of agility equip. Maybe the office can foot the vet bill. On the other hand they may tell you to go fly a kite and you brought them there by free will.

Good luck!!

What the heck were they thinking?!?

I am so very sorry for Snatch - poor guy I would also complain; that's just bizarre.

The only thing my local dog park doesn't have that I wish they did was some sort of a "water park" section with sprinklers!

water park!

O, a water park would be perfect! Well, not sure how Zoe would like it but Macy, my bulldog, would LOVE it!

I guess a baby pool will do...

I'm sure Snatch and Oxy won't being going there again! But it's ok, they deserve to run right? Good luck

And I just thought of this- maybe when you talk to the office you could explain to them the problem with having inappropriate equip in there, like cementing items and not having enough room? Maybe you showing you understand the proper items will "trump" their admins!

Thank you guys..
He seems better this morning. He had trouble hoping on the bed but walks fine...

No more park until those things are removed...

I am going to go in later very nicely. I will thank them for the park, but will point out the danger of the equipment they put (looks more like a children's playground - to give you an idea of the material) especially in such a small area. Dogs don't look where they run when they play. I will try to say that others have complained too.

Agility obstacles are supposed to fall if touched. those are going nowhere... (will try to take pictures later today)
They just put those thing yesterday. I am hoping to have them think about returning them: they would save money!

I really hope they reconsider (we have been living here for 8 years - they know us VERY (too) well

when he yelped and came slowly walking towards me on three legs, his rear left one dangling at the back, i started tearing up.. I started to shake...

i came home and DH said "well, it's a dog's life.. if it happens again, it happens again.. he still need to run.. funny it only happens with you though" (hmmm are you saying it's my fault?? )

DH is sooo way more laidback than me about the dogs.. of course i'm the one who took care of all the vet driving, dropping off, picking up, icing up the knee, carrying the 75lbs in the stairs..

i am NOT ready for more!! no, no, no!!!

I would also add to your plea about obsticles causing fighting within small, confined areas. That too many dogs (in this case, two is probably one two many) having to maneuver obstacles cause dogs to become anxious, nervous and defensive which WILL cause fights amongst unfamiliar dogs. It is a huge liability on them if any dog is possibly injured due to their lack of knowledge behind the "dog patch", um I mean "park". LOL

A larger, more open space with a shade tree would have been money better spent for them. Plus, it being a dog park, they certainly wouldn't want the neighborhood kids to enter it mistakingly thinking it's a kids park with the equipment. Risk of kids getting/spreading diseases, getting hurt on the equipment or by a dog within the park, etc.

It was a really nice gesture to make their home owners feel welcome and being dog friendly, but with a little bit of research, they can save themselves money and hassles.

oh i know the feeling. i used to coddle tuff when he was limping or not feeling well and my DH would give me lip for it and say "he's a dog! let a dog be a dog!" it drove me crazy sometimes because (like you) i am the one who deals with all the trips to the vets.. taking hours or days off work when necessary. i'm the one who does all the research to try to find out what's going on so i can be prepared when i talk to the vet. i'm the one who dispenses the meds and changes the bandages and sits in waiting rooms for hours on end. and i'm usually the one forking out the $$$$ to cover medical expenses. by no means am i self-righteous about it, but i think sometimes they have trouble looking at things from our perspective gotta love em!
