how long should i wait for him to eat before being concerned?

My Ozzy hasn't been feeling well for the past few days. He threw up on Sunday and it was just liquidy (I don't remember if he ate his breakfast then or not). I do know that he didn't eat at all yesterday or anything so far today. I can't quite remember the days before though. All day yesterday he was clearly not feeling well. I noticed that before i left for work in the morning and then yesterday evening too. He wouldn't eat any treats and was reluctant to eat a piece of cheese my husband gave him (totally out of character). 5 minutes later he threw up the cheese. He pooped a bit yesterday morning, but to my knowledge none since. I also know he threw up sometime yesterday in his crate...again just liquid, nothing solid (thank you husband for not cleaning it up when you took him out yesterday afternoon and leaving it for me to clean up this morning before work).

I can't recall what his water intake has been like, but I also don't recall him drinking a lot of water either so I am slightly concerned about dehydration.

I just don't know how long to wait. If it's just simply a stomach bug, then there isn't much a vet can do for him.

Anything I should look for in particular that could be a sign of something more serious? Should I pick up a can of wet food and see if he'll eat that to get something on his stomach?

I mean this is the dog with the iron stomach that has eaten an entire bag of reeses cups (tin foil and all) in the past and been fine. When he doesn't feel well, he really doesn't feel well.

IMO, I think you have reached the limit of time for this to have turned around at least a little bit.
Not eating their own food is one thing but factor in that he wouldn't take treats and the cheese wasn't gobbled up normally, he is vomiting, not drinking much and not producing stool (that you know of) and it would be quite concerning to me.
I'd get him to the vet. Dogs just don't get "a stomach bug" without reason (exposure to something). I'd be heading to the vets office ASAP.
Hope it isn't anything serious and he is back to his normal healthy self very soon.

I, too, think it is time to get to the vet. When any of my dogs turn down treats there is simething wrong. Must "bugs" my dog have had last a day or two tops. You said that Ozzy got sick on Sunday so that's been 4 days. It's time to call the vet. Sending some healing ((vibes)) to Ozzy!

Yeah I agree time for the vet. Sounds like it very well could be an obstruction to me and that can be deadly so time to go to the vet for sure.

Thanks guys. I called and made an appt with the vet. First available was Sat morning at 8:00. Hubby says that Ozzy is drinking some water, but he doesn't seem interested in his food. He also said there was some more throw up in the crate when he got home. Just a little, but with no food on his stomach I wouldn't expect much anyway. He hasn't pooped either...but again...I don't think there is anything in him at this point to poop out.

I can't think of anything he could have eaten that would have caused a blockage. He's pretty well supervised while we are home and he hasn't had any bedding in his crate for months. Unless maybe there is a frog lodged in there somewhere (hehe a frog in his throat)...they love to chase and eat the frogs in the backyard.

Anyway he is a really pitiful pup. Hopefully he'll rebound before we go to see the vet. I hate when they feel so sick!

IMO you need an appointment before Saturday. I'd start calling to other vets or go to the ER vet.

Well he actually has eaten twice now since i have been home and seems to be feeling much better. Hopefully he will poop in the morning and be back to normal. He was actually licking his bowl clean after dinner.

Just saw this thread. Hope Ozzy is on the mend. His eating is a good sign.

I am totally confused now...Ozzy was fine all weekend. Ate normally, pooped normally, drank normally, played normally.

Now...Sunday night I woke up to him gagging, tossed him in the bathroom (we'd just steam cleaned the carpets) and he threw up. He ate his breakfast, pooped fine yesterday morning and then was a little picky at dinner.

Last night he ended up sleeping on the floor in the corner which is unusual and then this morning he wont eat. He threw up a little and is now panting and generally acting like he doesn't feel good. I'm not really sure what to think. I guess I should probably call the vet?

Well...he pooped a liquid poop before i left the house this morning and he seemed to feel a little better and got comfortable and went to sleep. Maybe this afternoon he'll be a perky pup again...

Call the vet. Let us know how he's doing.

I did call the vet and they were no help over the phone really. All she said was "so you want to make an appt?" and then the first available they had was at 4. I made the appointment, but highly doubt I can get out of work for it.

I may run home on lunch to check on him.
