Question Layla's Ear is swollen

I noticed Layla's ears were pretty red and dirty so i decided to clean them. I have been noticing that she now keeps shaking her head as if her ear is infected or bothering her. Just on her right side though. I noticed tonight that at the base of the "floppy" part of her ear, it is extremely swollen and feels as though there may be fluid??

I have a vet appt for her on friday but i'd like to know if you have experienced anything like this or what it could be! I feel bad b/c I know its bothering her.

We had something similiar happen to a boxer we had. It turned out to be a hematoma. It's a blood filled pocket. They usually get them from scratching their ear too hard or some other sort of injury to the outer ear. The vet drained it, stitched it, and it healed up fine.

Sounds like she's got this:

One of our dogs had the same and it was drained by the vet without surgery and healed up no problem.

Sounds like a hematoma to me also. My boxer girl, Nikki, had one and the vet cleaned it out, drained it and stitched it....she was fine! Good luck to you & Layla....

Thank you everybody. When they drain it, do they have to put them under?? Its bothering her pretty bad if I try to touch the area and im not sure she will be the most docile boxer girl when they try to drain it.

Thank you again. I have been really worried for her.

They did not put Indigo under when she had hers drained because she was 11 yrs old at the time and had some other health issues. They numbed her ear and did it while she was awake. She never winced or yelped or anything. Didn't seem to bother her.
