Chocolate donut feast- concerned.

Over the weekend, we had a get together and had a bunch of leftover entenmann's - donuts, etc. We put them on our island in the kitchen- about 4 ft tall and left for work- when we got home there were empty boxes all over and the dogs (Our 2 boxers) had eaten: a box of 8 chocolate donuts, 3/4 pumpkin pie and a box of rasberry cookies- the first one is what worries me most. I know they shouldn't have chocolate. I called the vet and they asked when they ate them and unfortunately, I do not know because we were at work all day. There was a solid stool in the house and some urine which they never do...and the water bowl was empty. THe vet asst said to watch them and bring them in if they showed signs of shaking, continued vomiting, etc. Well, they were okay- except one woke me up at 3 am to go to the bathroom and today the other one has thrown up about 3 times- and the vomit really smells awful.

Should I just watch her longer or take her in? I am more concerned about our female because I am confident that she ate more- she is our little trouble maker, so I am confident and she is the one that was sick or is sick today.

Concerned mom...

Probably isn't enough chocolate in the doughnuts to do lasting damage to 50-70 lb dogs, but I am sure all that sugar is upsetting their tummies. Pancreatitis is also a possibility and serious. I'd call the vet again to ease your mind.

Thank you so much. I do hope her tummy is just bothering her. I will call to check in again, just to ease my mind- i may give her rice and chicken or just rice for breakfast tomorrow- any other thoughts/

Ornery, rotten, boxers!!! Not funny but I had to chuckle. I don't think there was enuf chocolate in the donuts either. But, I'll bet those two have some upset tummies....Sounds like a good idea to just give them chicken and rice till their tummies are a little better...Good luck.

Aww, I hope your babies are okay. Boxers sure are crafty when they want to be! I don't know if it will ease your mind at all, but my boy once ate a chocolate cookie that had been dropped on the sidewalk and I was told by my vet not to sweat it too much. While chocolate of any variety isn't good for dogs, it's the pure cocoa and bakers chocolate that you really need to worry about if ingested. As mentioned above, I would be more concerned about pancreatitis which if often triggered by eating fatty foods. Despite how awful your babies are feeling right now, if given the chance, I bet they wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again! Silly, silly dogs. Good luck!
