Dexter has come home today. YAY! His ultrasound showed 2 perfect kidneys with no damage and no signs of not being fully developed. His BUN level didn't drop as much as they wanted but it is on the way down. He is able to rest here at home without all the stress of the hospital. Tomorrow we go get more bloodwork done to see if his levels dropped. At this point they think (and I hope so I know what we are fighting) it's leptoseriosis, a NASTY bacteria that comes from Racoon urine. They say that it breeds in puddles; DON'T LET YOUR DOG GET INTO PUDDLES!!!! I'll post more then I know more. The outreach of support has been amazing! We thank you all so much for the prayers.

Super news . I'm so happy that things worked out for Dexter. What a load off your mind. Stay away from those puddles now Dexter!! You had us all worried. Take care and keep us posted on the results of his next blood work. Hugs.

Well it's not Lepto....his blood work has gone back to normal for now but we have to recheck it in a week. They have no idea what happened. For now, Dexter seems to be back to himself. Thanks again for all the outreach!

I'm just so happy that Dexter is home and doing so much better. It is kind of scary that you don't know what caused it for now. Continued prayers for complete recovery with no setbacks at all. Yeah . I like it when stories like this end happy.

Sorry to hear about Dexter's sudden illness. I can relate - our now 1 year old boxer boy was diagnosed with chronic renal failure 2 months ago! We noticed he was always thirsty (he had to be pulled away from water because he would drink it to the point of getting sick), had to pee a lot, and was wetting the bed in his sleep. The vet first thought it might be a urinary tract infection, treated that. Then we tried treating the incontinence. After multiple urinalysis, blood checks, and ultrasounds from both our vet and the breeder's vet (free of charge for the second opinion thankfully), the results came back as our worst fear. The only thing we can really do for him is put him on a special diet and give supplements and lots of love. Hope you find out what's really going on soon!
