I was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. We've been using the same vet for probably going on 15 years now, and we were not aware of the problems with ACE until we got our second boxer 4 months ago. During her last vaccination appt. it was time to schedule her for spay and I asked the dr. whether or not he used ACE and he said yes, but only small doses. I informed him about the problems and he said he was not aware of them and asked if I could give him the data on it, which I gladly did. The next appt he promptly thanked me and informed me that he will no longer be using ACE on any of his boxer patients.

It just gives you a big warm and fuzzy when your vet listens to your concerns and takes the appropriate actions. Anything less and they should not be doctors of any type.

I'm glad your vet asked for the information on ace and actually listened to what you had to say, mhendo. I wasn't so lucky. Oh well. The new clinic's gain will be the old clinic's loss.

I think the best DMVs feel obligated to provide the very best care possible to their clients. In order to do this, they need to educate themselves on new medicines and therapies. Humans are creatures of habit and I understand that change can sometimes be difficult, but when a vet who may have used a particular drug without any problem for years is given information on that same, potentially fatal, drug and that vet chooses to disregard it, it's time to go vet shopping
