Bentley will have 1 removed tomorrow

Hey everyone,

Thanks for making this site so useful, it is great for owners to learn much more about their boxers. Bentley, my 3.5 yr old boxer will have a lump removed tomorrow. He's had a small bump (no bigger than a dime on his side 2 inches out from his top nipple) for a few months, it never got any bigger & didnt bother him so I didnt schedule anything right away.

I had a routine appointment Thursday and asked them to take a look at the bump. The vet did a needle aspiration and she thought it looked like a MCT. I've scheduled an appointment for Monday to have it removed, I figure the sooner the better. Its not in a bad spot (face, legs, etc), so I hope it wont be rough on him. I've learned a lot about MCT and just boxer's health in general the past few days, and will continue reading.

He's been an extremely healthy, active dog and since the bump hasnt grown in the past couple months - I really hope things go in his favor. Still - nothing a boxer owner looks forward to after a few short years!

Good thing you're having it removed. Better safe than sorry Hopefully it turns out to be nothing serious, and that will be the end of it!

Good luck tomorrow Bentley Hope everything goes smoothly.

Ms. Ali had a lump removed from her front paw when she was 13 months old and the vet implied that it could very well be cancerous. It was not. The waiting is the worse. Wishing your baby a good report. Hugs.

Thanks for the support! Although they said it looked like MCT with the needle aspirate, I've still got faith that its nothing!

Any post-surgery tips I should know to make it as smooth as possible on my little man?

Bentley got through the surgery well. He was definitely happy to get out of there, but so tired he'd shut his eyes standing up.

He's got a nice gash on the left side of him but the vet felt like she got a good chunk out and the tumor wasn't too deep. The wound looks very swollen, like a golf ball poking out of his side - I'm hoping for quick improvement, because it looks extremely painful. I'll be staying home with him tomorrow to make sure he doesn't go after his stitches.

I'll hear back from the lab report within 5 days, so I'm praying for good news. I'd really like to get past this brief scare.

Hey Boxer Friends,

I heard back from the Vet on Monday with the Lab Report...GREAT NEWS! Bentley's bump was a MCT, but it was only a Stage 1, and they did get clear margins. From what I understand, a stage 1 is benign...so it was fantastic news. Since the bump was on him for about 3-4 months prior to the removal, and it never grew, I was hoping that it was sign that the bump was benign.

Surprisingly he has not bother his stitches at all and the wound is healing great, the stitches should be completely dissolved within the next week I think.

I will continue to check him over regularly for any bumps and will try to keep him active and healthy as possible.

Thanks for all of the support, in a time like that, its great to hear positive stories! I think the little scare made me realize how much I really do cherish his presence and love.
