Unhappy Oscar is booked in for Friday

.... to get neutered, I am more than a little nervous. I have checked which meds they use, and he'll go in at 9 am and be done by the afternoon, which is good as I've seen some say they had their dogs gone overnight.

Its about time we had it done, he has this stuffed (well it used to be) sheep, which recently has become practice for him He also started lifting his leg, but only when we are out and about, he still squats to pee in the garden. Does neutering change their personality at all? The vet says no but I wondered what everyone elses experiences are.

He'll be fine, and be better off and healthier as a neutered boy.

Neutering didn't change Johann's personality at all...he's still the same goofy and lovable boy.

Good luck to Oscar he will be fine . I was the same I couldn't concerntrate all day thinking about my baby having surgery even if it was only a 'routine' surgery!

We dropped him off at 7.30am (they normally go in the night before for blood tests and to make sure they dont eat but I booked it for a Monday therefore that couldnt happen ) then they told me to call at 3pm to see how he was doing and book a check out time. He was doing great at this time just sleeping and I then had to wait until 6.30pm to pick him up. When we saw him we were met with beans and wiggles. His personality has not changed a bit. Ive been told that once the testosterone is out of his body he may calm down a bit but who knows hes a boxer afterall!!

We'll be thinking of you Oscar

Agreed. Clavin just got neutered two weeks ago and it went fine. No lamp shade or any pain meds needed. The hardest thing was keeping him from jumping and running around for the ten days that they suggested. He had the stitches that dissolved so I did not even have to go back in. Just keep an eye on the incision.

Wishing the best for Oscar !

Thanks everyone, I know its routine but you can't help worrying. Ten days is a long time for any dog to take it easy, never mind a boxer, that's going to be a struggle! I'll let you all know how he gets on

Well, it went well, dropped Oscar off at 9am, and I phoned at 1.30 to see how it went. He was still sleeping but when we picked him up at 4 he was as bright as a button He has reversed stitches but we have to keep him away from them, he keeps licking them. I was up about 3 times last night because the sound of his licking woke me! I guess the stitches are itchy.

But all in all he's back to normal, the vet said only 5 minute walks for a week, so he's climbing the wall with all the excess energy. He's running around the garden when he goes out for the toilet and diving around the kitchen and living room, I don't seem to be able to keep him calm like the vet said. I guess he's just missing his walks.

When we had our Oscar neutered, I found that giving him 'brain work' helped to keep him from getting too rambunctious. We did a lot of short training sessions, usually during commercials while watching TV, and worked on very basic skills, such as sit, down, hand touch, and stay. I think that was when he learned to hold his stay while I returned and walked around him.

Good luck, feel better soon, Oscar.
