I've been checking all day waiting to see how Gus is. I'm sure he deserved all the yummy treats they gave him Waiting is such a pain! I hope everything comes back okay and this can all be history!

Bad news
Gus' ALT is still extremely elevated, and not only that, it went up. It was 1313.Now here are the results:
AST (SGOT) 268 (HIGH) Range:15-66 IU/L
ALT (SGPT) 3140 (HIGH) Range:12-118 IU/L
Results have been rechecked and verified.
I am so scared for my boy. My vet doesn't think the AST is anything to worry about right now. His bile acid level was fine. He is still acting totally normal. My vet has never seen a level that high. The internist said he could be in the begining stages or liver disease or liver failure when we went to her. I am so torn between going to my regular vet and the internist. I know if I go to the internist it will probably be 3-4 times the cost of my vet. And I trust my vet, I just don't know if he is as educated on the liver as the internist. I dont know. The internist likes to run ever test there is, and it feels like they do that just to make money. I know they need to rule things out, but I don't know. I don't know what to do. I am taking him to my regular vet Monday for an ultrasound. He said he isn't skilled in the ultrasound, but will be able to tell if there is something obvious. I chose to do that first, have him do it, because he won't charge me as much. If he doesn't see anything, he wants to open him up. I am not sure about that. At that point, I might take him back to the internist. I want to do whats best for my baby. I am so worried about my boy. But at least he isn't acting sick, but something is making his level so high. Please keep sending those positive boxer vibes and prayers his way.

Oh my goodness. I wish you could find out exactly what's going on with Gus. This is a real roller coaster for you. You must be wore out with work and school and worrying over Gus. I'm glad that he's back to his old self again and that nasty pain in his jaw is gone. Poor guy!! I'm keeping you and Gus in my prayers and sending loads of healing vibes your way. Hugs.

Have they ruled out hepatitis? Here is a link that describes it http://www.hepatitis911.com/article.cfm/id/17066
I hope that Gus is still doing well, and we're still sending out those prayers and healing vibes.

He was on antibiotics for 2 weeks, so I think if he had any kind of infection it would have gone down, at least a little, not gone up more than double! Right now he is only on the liver protectant drug. I bought milk thistle for him. Does anyone know the proper dosage? He is 60 pounds.
I called the internist. I can't talk to her until Monday, but we are going back to her. I decided it will be better for him to see her than just the regular vet.

Just sending lots of good vibes to Gus. Hope you find out what's causing his elevated enzyme levels. It may be something very simple. I know of people who have high levels and they just drop back to normal again. So maybe animals are no different. I know you will still worry until you find out what's going on. Gus is still so young I bet it's all related to that jaw problem he had. Take care and keep us posted on how he's doing.
