Question My Puppy Is Sick

Hello...

I was hopeing someone could help me out... give me some guidance. I have an 8-ish week old puppy who's not feeling so well. The day before yesterday she had diarrhea that was whiteish that would squirt out. She would drink, but she wouldn't really eat. I brought her to the vet yesterday, he gave her some medication for worms and he gave her Neosol drops for the diarrhea. Yesterday, she would drink a little, but she wouldn't really eat. Today, she still drinks a little bit, but she doesn't really eat at all. I would like for her to drink and eat some more, she has lost a few pounds. What can I do? What could I give her to eat to settle her stomach?

Thanks a lot.

You should hold food for 24 hrs, and then after that introduce a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice, a 50/50 mixture. You could offer her baby food too.... that was the only thing Izzy would eat at first when she was sick. Don't put her back on her regular diet until the diarrhea clears up. Hope this helps. Call the vet if she refuses to drink though.

Hi! Nikita came home in her 8th wk and I know the breeder was keeping her an extra few days due to worms and the same symptoms. When we brought her home she was still taking pills for next few days. I remember being so scared cause she didn't feel like eating so I actually hand fed her. Anyways, it passed and she's fine. I would suggest to have her on good quality food and treats. I'm sure you'll get alot of good advice here....I'm sending {{{{healing}}}} vibes for your baby girl!!

okay... i could try that... if she hasn't really eaten since yesterday... could I try a bland diet tomorrow and see how she does.

I seen somewhere they mentioned I could give her potatoes???

Do you cook the chicken and the rice seperately, and then just mix it and give it to her like that? how much would she have to eat? she only weighs 8 lbs.

Thanks a lot for your help.

My girl hasn't really had much diarrhea since taking the medication twice yesterday and once today. I have read that the Neosol drops can cause constipation and nausea.. so i'm wondering if that might also be a reason why she's not eating. She hasn't really had any diarrhea today, so I'm wondering if I should stop giving her the medication tomorrow and see how it goes.

Ask the vet before you stop medication. Nikita was also a mere 8lbs when this was going on with her. All the best!

I'm sorry your baby girl is not feeling good. Please call your vet if you have any concerns about the diarrhea and what you should be feeding. I wouldn't stop the medication unless your vet says to. A bland diet helps to soothe an upset tummy, and give it a rest. Sending out lots of healing thoughts, and hope that your puppy is doing better soon. Please keep us updated.

I'm sorry that your puppy is sick. Your baby is very young and it would be best to follow up your vet and be guided by their help. Some medication needs to be taken for a certain number of days to be most helpful. I wouldn't stop the meds unless the vet says to do so.

Sending healing vibes to your new pup....................

not so good news... my baby is very sick

Hello... an update...

I had brought her to the vet, and well, she wasn't doing any better. I called him this morning and brought her in for a test. I received bad news... she has parvovirus. They are keeping her over the weekend to give her IV's and medication. I hope she makes it through the weekend. She's such a sweet girl and we've just started to get to know her. Please pray for her...

my puppy is really sick... she has parvovirus

My puppy (8 weeks old) is really sick... we just found out this morning that she has parvovirus. The vet is keeping her over the weekend to give her some IV's and medication. She was starting to get dehydrated and you could clearly see she wasn't feeling any better.

Has anyone had to deal with parvovirus?

I hope everything goes well and that she gets better.
