What to feed pup after diarrhea?

Rasmus had a bad case of diarrhea (3 days) after his bout with hives. Vet seems to think he swallowed what ever gave him the allergy.

He has been on Hills Prescription Diet i/d - a canned chicken and rice very bland food - for 2 days, this is his 3rd. He is back to his normal self, happy, playful and looking for food. His poo is now formed and fairly solid and I want to start introducing him back onto normal food.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to give him first, I don't want to upset his tummy.

He normally gets a dry food in the mornings and a homecooked chicken mince, pasta, vege mix at lunch and at night. When would I start giving him his bones again, too.

I started to give him some of his normal food mixed in with the tinned one and he went ok so today I started to give him more normal food and less tinned. He ended up with soft poo covered in mucus...

He has a vets appointment tomorrow but does anyone have any suggestions? Should I be looking at a different diet altogether? or have I gone back to the normal diet too soon.

Are you only feding him twice a day? If so, that could be part of the problem. Such a young puppy should really still be on four times a day feeds - much easier on his digestive system.

Thanks for your reply, I'm feeding him 4 small meals over the day.

After diarrhea I usually stop feeding him for a day, just to have his stomach empty out, but fresh water is always there. Then I give him some cooked white rice and a couple of small pieces of broiled chicken breast. Then when he is back to normal I feed him again his usual dry food.

I also used boiled chicken and rice for upset tummies. I also use a little cottge cheese for diarrhea but only if you are sure he is ok with dairy. Good luck
