Cough

The last couple of days our boxer, Bella, has been coughing and hacking. It sounds as if she has something caught in her throat that she can't get up. It doesn't sound like a normal cough. I keep thinking if she just throws up she can get better. She is in to chewing her toys and may have swallowed something. She isn't choking but only does it once in a while.

Any experience with this or what we could do to help her out?

Re: Cough

I'd take her to the vet just to be on the safe side.

Re: Cough

I agree. A vet check is in order. Good luck and let us know how it goes

Re: Cough

Is there any way that she could have gotten kennel cough from one visit to the vet? I guess, I really don't trust this vet and do not want to take her there again.

Re: Cough

I had the exact same thing with Lola two weeks ago. She was coughing and hacking like a hairball and nothing coming up. She had an upper respiratory infection (mimicked kennel cough but she'd not been anywhere) vet put her on antibiotics for 10 days and it took 5 days of drugs to get rid of the cough. I'm glad I got her in so fast.

Re: Cough

SHe has only been around one other dog that does not have it and then the vet. She could have gotten in there or from her bordetella booster.

Kennel Cough

Is the kennel cough that is contracted through a vaccination still very contagious? Or since it comes from a vaccine, will my dog be okay?

Re: Cough

She most likely got it from the vaccine. It's a live virus that is injected.

Your dog will be fine, but as a courtesy to other dog owners, I wouldn't bring her around other dogs until she's no longer symptomatic. It is very contagious, but not as bad as it sounds.
