D-Mange nearly healed NATURALLY!! :-)

I just wanted to post so it would encourage some others who have been through this lately. I have replied to recent posts concerning demodectic mange, and we didn't want to treat with chemicals, etc. Shae was 9 months old last Friday. Probably just before Christmas so around 6-7 mos, she developed the first spot on her temple, followed by two on top of her head, one on her nose and some on each side of her muzzle. We started her on a vitamen supplement to boost her immune system. Added some yogurt, eggs and Omega 3 oil into her diet of Blue Buffalo dry. After a month or so I ordered and started using Goodwinol ointment on her and also added 'Missing Link' to her food. I'm so thrilled to say that just in the past 3 weeks, the spots started to grow hair back and look normal and it just happened so quickly, she's good as new now!! So I'm so glad I did my research here on BW and used the knowledge and advice of some great posters and moderators and we got through it without Ivermectin or dips! Without BW, we would've just taken the vets word right off the top and had chemicals!! Thanks, everybody!!! Sorry for being long but I hope to encourage others to try natural first!! And give it time!

Re: D-Mange nearly healed NATURALLY!! :-)

How wonderful - congratulations to you & Shae!!!!
We really wanted to try that route with Grumpy's d-mange too, I even had my vet convinced to give me 3 months to work on it before we tried the ivermectin. Unfortunately Grumpy decided Goodwinol was tasty. . . and it made her sick (vomiting) when she licked it, even hours after I had applied it. And without it, even with all the supplements, she did keep getting new spots all over. So ivermectin for us now, at least she is on a very low dose.
I am so happy for you though & hope others read this - your experience should be a huge help to people trying to decide how to treat their dogs. Reading success stories like yours was a big reason I did try to avoid the ivermectin for as long as I could.
Way to go Shae, you healthy little girl!

Re: D-Mange nearly healed NATURALLY!! :-)

Thanks so much, I am thrilled that it turned out well and we didn't need to go further! Don't we worry incessantly over them!! Healthy Shae? Yes
Little Shae? aaaaaaaa no, she's 55 lbs on her 9 mo. birthday the 23rd!!!! But we still love her big ole fat butt, right on our laps. She's actually not fat, but sure is muscular and STRONG, especially when doing something she's not supposed to, like pulling the leash to get to a squirrel or pulling on my sock when I try to take it away! lol
