Question Seasonal Flank Alopecia treatments

Hi, I think Macon has seasonal flank alopecia too. It's our first winter in Michigan and the winters are longer here then in Indiana. After reading all the recent posts about seasonal flank alopecia, I'm pretty sure this is the cause of her blackening skin, losing hair, and flaky skin. I'll be taking her to the vet though just to be sure it's nothing else.

I'm posting a poll about what treatment options, if any, BW members have used for this. Thanks!

I tried Melatonin, you can see pictures in my gallery of what she looked like when I started. And actually what she looks like now- She got diarrhea after 2 days of 3mg/2xday so I stopped giving it to her. It took a week for the diarrhea to go away and I don't know wether I should try only once a day to see if it works or not...I think i'll wait until I get her thyroid tested.

Lightbulb nothing

Buckeye and Steeler both have Seasonal Flank Alopecia. As of right now, because we are near summer, we are choosing to not put them on anything. The dermatologist specialist from OSU told us sunlight will help their hair grow back during summer. During the winter we are to put sunlight bulbs in our house, you can get them at Lowe's. At that point we will determine if they need Melatonin during the winter.
