AMD prossesors always had the heating problem, i would suggest that you keep your CPU' box open and just let it be.

Thanks Jason, great advice, we are going for a new heatsink this weekend. For right now we are leaving the case open with a fan blowing directly in. Not a good permanant solution because of the pets and kids. DH is going through withdrawal, this is his main gaming pc I'll let you know how it goes.

Keeping a case door open is an ok temp solution, but cases should remained closed for proper airflow.

Heat RISES, it doesn't flow sideways, hence keeping the case door closed causes the intake and exhaust fans to work properly. With the case door open, they are doing nothing effectively.

Talking update

Yay!!!

The new heatsink fixed the problem!!! DH says it is running about 40 degrees cooler now, even under a heavy load. That is also with the case put back together.
