Ace was not used

"Recently, on the Veterinary Information Network, a computer network for practicing veterinarians, an announcement was placed in the cardiology section entitled "Acepromazine and Boxers." This described several adverse reactions to the drug in a very short time span at a veterinary teaching hospital. All the adverse reactions were in Boxers. The reactions included collapse, respiratory arrest, and profound bradycardia (slow heart rate, less than 60 beats per minute). The announcement suggested that Acepromazine should not be used in dogs of the Boxer breed because of a breed related sensitivity to the drug.
This drug is the most commonly prescribed tranquilizer in veterinary medicine. It is also used orally and is prescribed for owners who want to tranquilize their dogs for air or car travel. I would strongly recommend that Boxer owners avoid the use of this drug, especially when the dog will be unattended and/or unable to receive emergency medical care if it is needed."

Clearly your boxer is having a reaction to the anesthestic but I would want to know if this is the drug my vet used. Keep working on the recovery and don't give up unless you think she is suffering. Sometimes these things do reverse given time. My Molly licked a Colorado Toad (poisonus) and did not return to 100% for about 3 months. Her heart beat was erratic and the vet diagnosed her with a murmur which vanished along with all other symptoms. I did some research at the time and found that allergic reactions can linger for months after the event and may reverse. Hang in there!

That was one of the first things we checked and knew before hand not to have this drug used...... the DVM has been a great find and we know he has a heart...... he has also become a great friend as well.... his feelings were as sad as our when this happined.....

Wonderful news! So glad to hear Precious is on the road to recovery. Time heals so many wounds.
Good for you and your wife kicking the smoking demon - it's not an easy task but every day smoke-free is a positive step!

I really think it was either the anesthesia or, when she was coming out of the effects of it, she arrested, and they did CPR and bagged her, she came right back, as I mentioned in my last post she does appear to have her eyesight back. But... we have noticed a mind change in her attitude.... I have heard that it takes a month or so for all the effects to wear off... and are trying to be patience with her... Thinking of taking her to an eye specialist or straight to Texas A&M its only about 5 hours from here.... To let them work on her... Still up in the air and waiting on a month or so to let the effects wear days now...or even found a site for dog Psychiatrist. Yes it does feel good for being free for 8 days now... Margie had a very hard day yesterday but was a good girl and didn’t give in to it... Precious had some vomiting today, for what reason but really feels down, we did get some water down her with a syringe in the side of the mouth... she goes back to her DVM tomorrow...
