Cindy,
You have been such a friend, and source of strength and encouragement throughout my ordeal with Mugsy. We will be praying for your mother and you.

Mother and I met with the medical oncologist today. I am so gratful that she agreed to keep this appointment. He explained things so very clearly. He answered do many of my questions. First, the tumor in the lung is so small that the PET scan is the only test that revealed it. It is a very slow growing cancer. The tumor in the back is the same type as the lung.. There are two new treatments that are only a year old with promising results. The medicine will not cure cancer, just slow or stunt its growth. One new oral medicine is Iressa, an anticancer effect drug. The other drug is a bone strengthening agent called Zometa. This is given once a month through a drip. This will help with the osteoporosis and the pain. It will stop the growth of the tumor, and help prevent any more compression fractures. She was relieved that she had other options besides chemo. Our next visit will be on the 29th. I will keep you updated, if you keep us in your prayers. I feel so much better today. This news did offer us a glimmer of hope.

Cindy, I'm so glad that you and your mom feel better after visiting the doctor. There are so many new treatments nowadays, that even if they can't cure the disease, they can at least make the patient comfortable.
I will certainly keep you and your mother in my prayers!

I, too am glad that the doctor was able to offer options that can bring you comfort and most of all hope. You hang in there, like Lenore said there are so many things they can do today and are making such great strides in fighting cancer. Stay strong and we'll keep right on praying as hard as we can! djk

Cindy I'm glad things went well with the new dr. I hope this treatment works well for her, and I'll continue to pray for her.

Well, I have been researching the two treatments that are possible. The first one, Iressa, I do not believe mother could tolerate it. She has so many medical conditions. The side effects are pretty bad. The Zometa, bone strengthening agent, may be something she may be able to tolerate. I have to keep researching. She seems to be in better spirits. I know that she is scared of all these treatments. I do not want her to get anymore sick than she has already been. I am hanging in there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your great support. Had it not been for our mutual love of boxers, I would never have had such a great support group at this very difficult time. Lets hear it again for our Boxers.
