Angry Dia is gone....

I guess this is goodbye to you all at Boxerworld. This morning my
"neighbor" shot and killed my baby girl, Dia. Apparently there was a hole in the fence. She was getting through and chasing his goats. I asked him why didn't you talk to me and his reply was "I'm sorry". Well, nothing changes the fact that my best friend in the world is dead. She was just one year old and the best dog in the world. What will I do with all these toys? I am SO sad.... My husband is burying her in the back yard now. I even have her pic as my screen saver. She is everywhere.....so goodbye, you have been fantastic and I love you all. Gail

OMG I am speechless....

I am so sorry he did that. Did he even try to stop her or anything before he just up and shot her? I can't believe anyone would do that.

My heart breaks for you. I hope you have some peace in your heart soon. Maybe you could donate the toys to a rescue or a shelter? Or maybe keep them in case you someday decided to get another dog?

Good luck and sending happy thoughts

I am so sorry my condolences to you and your husband. This is a tragedy, I'm at a loss for words. I commend you for your control over the situation, I would be saying goodbye because the police where on the way to take me into custody for assault on my neighbor at the minimum. I guess your strength and resurvation come because of the area in Wash. you live in.

My thoughts are with your family in the tragic loss of Dia.

Your support is so wonderful

Thank you so much for your words of caring. There is no need for revenge or suing this guy. It won't bring Dia back. I am praying that I can forgive him, remember Dia and the wonderful memories of her and the great times we had and not let my heart become bitter. Like I said, my fence had the hole. I am ultimately responsible. I just didn't know. Del made her a nice grave and I got to spend some time with her saying goodbye before he buried her. She did not suffer. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to know and love her for the short time she was here. Maybe someday I will be ready to start a new relationship with another Boxer (what other kind of dog is there?). Maybe I could rescue another one (I rescued Dia). You guys are great! God bless you for your warm hearts and loving feelings for me even though you don't know me. You bring me confort Gail

Well I ma very sorry about what happened to your baby. And your right it is your choice as to how you handle the end result. I am just a hell raiser so it would be like he just shot my kid and I would be out to make him pay!

"make him pay"

Even if I wanted to make him pay, I can't. My dog was on his property. We live in a farming community. The sherriff wouldn't be sympathetic to that because people have dogs (owned by irresponsible people) come onto their property and kill farm animals, and dig in their hay fields (causing EXPENSIVE breakage to farm equipment). I am sure Dia was chasing his goats. Hell raiser or not, MY dog should not have been on his property. He has the legal right to shoot her if he wants. I have a new opinion of my neighbor now, who waves to me as I leave my house, but I would never win a lawsuit and would have to spend a lot of money for nothing in the end.

I have to agree with Jim though. You have a lot more control over the situation than I. I would probably be hauled away by the police kicking and screaming.

I do understand the area you live.
I grew up in this kind of community (Port Orchard Wa.) and my family rase cattle still but a phone call or captureing the dog was always the first resort. Your neghbor was not understanding or compassionate enough to use these methods. I'm glad you understand his position. His investment and livelihood was threatend with his stock. Be the strong one, my thoughts are with you.

I am so sorry for what you are going through right now. I can't imagine. You have much more control than I would have. I am sitting here crying because I cannot imagine having to say goodbye to one of my boxers under those circumstances. You will be in my thoughts.

today

Today is a new day....Falling asleep and waking up to reality was awful. My husband decided to take action. He went over and explained the situation to the offender's father (Yes, the son is a grown man of about 40) The father was beside himself with remorse over our loss and offered no excuses for his son. He would like to replace Dia with a Boxer puppy as a form of restitution. I find some comfort in the fact that the whole lot of them aren't monsters and that the Sr. cares. I may take him up on the offer. Maybe a puppy will fill a part of my heart that will forever be missing. Again, you are all awesome. So nice to know that some of you are even crying with me. I love you all. Thank you for helping me endure this. Gail
