I am so sorry you are going through this. First thing you need to do is see a lawyer. They will be able to guide you. When my ex and I split (if memory serves right) my attny said he had to move out. But I have kids, so that may have played a part in it. Are the dogs registered? If so, who is the "owner" on the papers? Don't know if that would be any problem or not. I would not advise you both live in the same house.
Ask the lawyer reguarding opening your own bank account. You need to get ducks in a row. Let your lawyer know right away what he is doing about the dogs. One minute wanting them, next not. There is always the chance a judge may split them up. You each get one. Not wanting to be a downer, sorry. Maybe in one of those times when he doesn't want them, he would be willing to sign an agreement that you get them. If so, make sure it gets notorized. That will make it a legal binding document.
He will play on your emotions. You are right in not giving him the reaction he wants.
Document everything. You'll be glad you did. Wish I had more words of wisdom.
I was married for 15 years, but I'm the one who called it quits. Long story.
I will be keeping you and your babies in my prayers.

1. Get a lawyer
2. Document, document, document - Every receipt for vet care, food, anything pertaining to the dogs' well being. Also, if you have anyone who can vouch for you as being the primary caregiver to the dogs; friend, family, vet, neighbors...it never hurts to have people who are willing to speak on your behalf.
3. Breathe - Take it one day at a time. The tough times always seem tougher when you are right in the midst - but once it has passed, you will come out on the other side that much stronger.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. It is truly sick how some people use the most innocent as their pawns in battle. I will keep you in my prayers during this difficult time. I don't however have any advice for you, sorry. )))HUGS((( to you.

Since he initiated the divorce, YOU having custody of the dogs should be one of YOUR conditions. Whether he gets to see them later is not something I would worry about right now. I know this is an aweful time for you. I'm in a divorce recovery work shop right now and can't say enough good things about it. Check it out. Divorce is difficult, no matter the circumstances. It's change for everyone. Keep the dogs, they will keep you going and smiling on your lowest days. Good luck to you.
