I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I lost my grandmother to cancer just over a year ago. As the others have said get as involved as you can with her care and decisions. My sister and I always said that they spent all of their lives caring for us it was our turn to do the same. No one cares about her health and care as much as you do now is the time to step forward and choose the best for her even if it is not the easiest for you. Be strong and my thoughts will be with you. And I always heard that God will never put more on you than you can handle. Please keep us updated.

Thankyou for your replies, tomorrow my sis and I are meeting with the oncologist and we hope to have our many questions answered. We mainly need to know if they are going to give mum radiotherapy, we know that this would be for pain relief only, if not, we need to know how they will manage her pain. It seems that the leg that has broken will never be strong enough for her to walk on, mum does not realise this yet. Her mammogram and uterus investigations have come back clear, we still do not know where the primary cancer is.

Oh Louise, please know that my heart goes out to your mum, you and your sister as well as all family and friends involved. While I know that words written here are not enough, please know that they are sincere and that you are in my thoughts and prayers each day.
It sounds as though you are receiving excellent advice and care for your beloved mum, I know it's overwhelming to say the very least. I would encourage you to find time to simply be together, talking or not but just letting each other know that you are there.
We're all here for you, sending loving energy to all of you,
Sandy

I hope you get the information you need to make good decisions about her health care and that staying involved will give you the strength you need to get through it. My father is a cancer survivor, but it is very, very difficult early on in diagnosis and treatment. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Thankyou for your replies and thoughts. Mum is waiting to have 6 days of radiotherapy, she is in hospital but her pain is a little worse. It is so awful to see her there, she looks so well but is very uncomfortable. We have been there every day (work permitting) since christmas eve, after the radiotherapy she will be moved to our local hospital to recover from the radiotherapy. She still has an unknown primary but she isn't fully aware that she probably won't be able to walk again or go home to her flat. We don't know whats going to happen...my sister is completely devastated as I am but she is struggling with the diagnosis. I look at mum and I can't beleive it, she is 69. The unknown primary is the worst as they have told us they won't scan her again to look for it.
