Herniated Disk Surgery!!

We just FINALLY got a new computer!!! I was going through boxerworld withdraw

It has been a rough couple months. I hurt my back at work helping move a 700lb woman, only to find out later my disk was herniated. So here I am cant bend, walk, sit, stand long at 29, with three kids, three dogs, a husband, house to run, fighting workers comp, placed on light duty since June and finally going to surgery Oct. 24th!! It will be my first surgery and stay in the hospital!! The disk is between L4-L5 and is pinching the Sciatic nerve. I have lost a lot of feeling in my right leg and foot due to the process taking so long to get to surgery. Even though this has been a long process it has made me realize how much I need to get into shape and be thankful I am able to move I am getting scared that surgery is getting closer but am ready to get it over. It is just very scary to know they will be in my spine!!! I am sorry I am rattling on, I just needed to vent and in need of the wonderful Boxer vibes I have seen work so many times Thank you all for listening!!!

Send you some wiggles and licks!

You will do fine. I have my spine fused from T11-L3. I am missing a lumbar vertebrae so that leaves only one free vertebrae between my fusion and my pelvis. The pressure from the fusion is causing the free vertebrae to be grinding on my pelvis and pinching nerves. My left hip is numb to the touch but I can still feel the pain on the inside along with weakness. My blood flow is messed up in my left leg so that foot is always freezing compared to the other. I will be 24 in November and they say there is nothing they can do. I had surgery because I had scoliosis but for the degree of my curvature, should have never even had the surgery. Basically I was scammed by the doctor.

I know exactly how you feel. I can't stay in one position for very long, it is hard to get comfortable. I have to take muscle relaxers to sleep because it hurts to relax so I hold myself tense.

I have a feeling though that your surgery will be successful. Hopefully your hospital stay is short an uneventful. I was there for 10 days for my first surgery, the first 3 I was in ICU and pretty much knocked out so those days flew by but the next 7 were hell, even with the morphine drip. Your surgery won't be so involved so your "vacation" should be ok.

Good luck and keep us updated. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all very much I am just ready to get it over and get back to "normal" life. My job is very physical so sitting still is killing me

TossBranAbi: Wow you have had a lot done!! Thank you for sharing your experience, it helps to hear others stories. I will be sure to put you in my prayers!! Did any of your numbness get better after surgery? I know what you mean when you say you can still feel pain. I trip alot because my right foot just doesnt want to work. One day I took my kids to Taco Bell, when I was walking out the door my leg froze!! Thank goodness I had ahold of the door or I would have gone down. The guy walking through said "you can go through." I said ok thank you I will in a minute, then just stood there

I hope to be able to get on here alot while I am off. I will keep you all update and thank you again for your positive vibes and prayers!!!!!!

My daughter had the same thing when she was 16 - injury from playing volleyball, pain & numbness, she said that she could tell in recovery that the pain & numbness was gone. My husband had the same surgery at 51, we had driven from Ohio to Florida, he stepped out of the SUV when we got there & something popped. Four months later he had surgery, he had a lot of numbness and he said he could tell in recovery that it was gone. Both are doing very well, both did exactly what the doctor said - DH took the entire 6 weeks off and I think that was very important. Good luck, follow your doctors orders and don't do anything while you are recovering. I know that will be hard but very important to let your body heal. Keep us updated. Our prayers are with you.

Now I have to go to a Cardiologist and have a chemically enduced stress test since I physically cant walk on the treadmill right now. Then if all goes ok and he will clear me and I can have surgery friday but if not then surgery gets postponed!!!! I really dont want that to happen I just want this to get over with!!!! I let you know how things go monday.
Thank you for all your stories and prayers, they trully help!
