Another Nephew Who Needs Your Prayers

Once again friends I turn to you asking for those great BW vibes, this time for another newborn nephew (Friday, May 4) who entered this world way too soon. My SIL was only 26wks when she went into labor and had to have an emergency c-section. She has been hospitalized for the past 5weeks, having surgery (cervix had to be stiched closed) to prevent an early delivery, or worse, and was restricted to total bed rest until delivery, which wasn't supposed to be until August. On Thursday her water broke, and delivery on Friday was unavoidable. Little Jordan has made his entry weighing 1lb 15oz and is 12 1/2" long. He has quite a battle ahead of him as his lungs have not fully developed and he is on a ventilator. Yesterday a heart murmur was discovered and further tests are being done today. He did have jaundice but that is much better now.
Jordan is so tiny..I've never seen such a tiny person like this except on TV. My SIL is healing as well as to be expected and she was sent home yesterday. The baby is in the Childrens Hospital in Ottawa...in most excellent hands. SIL will return to Ottawa tomorrow and will stay at the Ronald McDonald House so she can remain close to the hospital. This is so difficult for her, understandably, and my brother. They also have Jacob (2) at home who misses his mommy very much.
So, once again BW friends I'm asking, please, for your prayers for strength that Jordan will need to grow. Please send those great BW vibes his way. Thanks so much.

Congratulations on your new nephew!!!! I have a friend who's daughter was premature, and weighed the same as your nephew at birth. She is now almost 13 years old, and has no health problems whatsoever. It is amazing how advanced medicine is that they can not only save a baby this small, but they thrive and catch up to the other children that had a "normal" birth weight. Hugs to you, your sister in law, brother, and Jordan.

Thanks so much you guys! Your thoughts and prayers mean a lot. I just spoke with my brother and he tells me that Jordan has gained 8grams since his birth! That doesn't sound like much, but at 1lb and 15oz's, it's quite substantial! The heart murmur is common in preemies. The valve in question normally closes itself at birth...a normal full term birth. Since he is a preemie, they will keep a close eye on this, and if it does not close on it's own, medication will be required, or God forbid, surgery.
Jordan is doing very well considering and if all continues to go this well, they may be able to bring Jordan home in July, as long as his weight is over 4lbs. My SIL is having a hard time emotionally, but she's doing better than I expected. She's anxious to hold her new son.
The positive vibes, thoughts and prayers are working just as I knew they would. Keep them coming you guys...myself and my family truly appreciate it!

Glad to hear that Jordan is gaining weight.

My SIL was born premature 30 years ago, the photos that I have seen were unbelieveable.
In this day and age the advances are amazing.
Lots of hugs going out to baby Jordan and your family.
