Male Female - which is better with kids

Hello All

I just put a deposit on my soon to be born puppy and although I requested a male based on the breeders recommendation, I was wondering what the rest of the world thought.

I have a 6 and 3 year old. They are not scared of animals. Males seem to grow a lot bigger and my next door neighbor has a female Rott that seems to be well taken care of. She is a house dog and it not in her backyard to often.

I was thinking that maybe a smaller framed female would be better for me and my family, BUT the breeder suggested that a male would be better with the kids.

What are you all thoughts

I don't think you can wrong with either -- I've had both over the years (as a kid) and honestly have no preference for male or female. When I was looking to adopt the first boxer that would be my own, I thought I wanted a female just because I wanted a smaller one -- I was worried that I might not be able to pick up and carry a male in an emergency. The family I adopted Dallas from actually had both a male and female that had to be rehomed -- I thought I wanted the female but they convinced me that their male was better fit for me. So I ended up with my boy Dallas and I've never regretted it -- he's a small male and I've been carrying him quite frequently since he had knee surgery shortly after I got him. Honestly I think I would trust your breeder's insticts to help you pick the best match for your family without worrying about male or female. With the proper training for both the dog and the kids, either one will be great addition to your family!

My sister and I both have siblings. Monty is mine and Sophie hers. I have pics of both of them on my avatar, Sophie is the one with the white stripe on her face. I can honestly say they both equally love children. Sophie is more hypo and jumps up alot where as Monty is more laid back and gentler. But then he is much more bigger and stronger.

I was brought up with 5 female boxers so Monty is the first male boxer my family has experience of and I can honestly say whilst all our boxers had different temprements, Monty has the temprement of the softest girl we owned.
