In addition to the Boxer (which sounds like a great fit for your family), you might also consider a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. They are notoriously great with kids (to the effect that they've garnered the nickname "nanny dog" in the UK), and are very active as well. They share more than a few traits in common with Boxers, actually.
