I think that either would be great as long as it was a boxer! Also, I would make sure that your child knows his limitations in regards to treatment of the dog and all of that good stuff.

If I could have 1 boxer, and only 1 boxer. It would be a male.

I agree. Love my girls but a Boxer boy is everything a dog was meant to be. He will adore your little one and be sturdy enough to handle all manner of silliness. My boxer boy LIVES to find boys to play with. Good luck and what fun your son will have!!

I love my girl, Tess, but Conner, our boy, is and has always been easier.

I've never had a female, but Rolen is our first dog and boxer. He is a male and we couldn't ask for a better companion! He's everything we imagined him to be!

None of my dogs are protective per se. No barking when people arrive or protecting car or house but I think they would be there with a real threat.
I have 7 boxers. 6 are females. I think they tend to be smarter and thus a little more challenging. We always had male boxers growing up, The two best dogs we ever had were both females.
