That is such a sad story. Regretfully, I bought Abby from a pet store....all before I began really reading here at BW and knew

that just hurts..it breaks my heart because I know its so true.
I was at a pet store the other day ...a pet store that Ive called the humane society on before. They have a bunch of pugs, 2 dobies and a few other dogs. Someone was looking at one of the pugs and asked if they were from Puppy mills....the employee completely denied it. I think Im one day going to print this and leave it in some pet stores. This is the same pet store that my friend did job placement at and they have a list in the back room of "breeders" they get their pups from....and they told her theyre not puppy mills. I had to explain to her that if theyre not registered breeders and theyre constantly breeding their dogs... im sorry but theyre puppymills.
**side note... i cried as i read this lol and our security guard came around the corner as i was crying.. he thnksim nuts now.

pet stores
I didn't think I was so emotional, but I am sitting here crying. That is so sad. I moved from Kansas to New York a little over a year ago. I had never seen a pet store in the mall before I moved here. It is awful to see those sad little puppies trapped in a box, with metal wire underneath their feet. It is so inhumane, I don't even know how people can think that's ok. Shame on the people who own the stores, and shame on the breeders who are just looking for money. I wish there were rules here about pet stores and BYBs.

I used to work in 2 different pet shops in local towns both stores started off taking puppies from people who didnt want to go to the humane society or it was full they dewormed the puppies and took them to the vets for their first shots the pups sold for about 175.00.
Then the 1 st one I worked at started going down hill (it cost money to get shots) and stated to get some from her "supplier" it really was sad to see little maltese pups crammed in hamster cages they were soo small and sick.
She kept telling me that she wanted to make them better well you cant save them all her vet bill was HUGE. I dont think she got one pup that didnt have some sort of problem and yes she did sell them. Those puppies put Her out of business.(i was fired caus i didn buy one of the dalmations she got in!!)
The second shop i worked at while yes im sure they were at least byb he wouldnt take anything that looked unhealthy. They took all puppies to the vets before they came to the shop we took them out and played with them I know its still not the greatest start but none of ours were cowering in the back corners of the cages, they got baths and cuddles.
There were 3 puppies that still stick in my mind a maltipoo who would fight her way out of her owners arms every time she saw me and lick franticly
A sheltie who was very timid and left with her head held high(i bawled when i sold her) and a tenacious little westi who just demanded your attention.
this story did have me bawling as i remember how sick the puppies were at the first shop, it lightened my eyes to the bigger pic. I havent been in a pet store really since then its been over 10 years I just do the pet food stores.

Oh how sad but oh so true. I am also in tears after reading this. My first purchased pet was my cocker spaniel Sage.(yes I to was ignorant at one time) I got him from a broker who hid behind a prestegious name. The building was beautiful and well kept but you never saw any dogs. They asked you what type of dog you were intersted in(small, med, large) then take you to a large room and they bring the animals in one at a time for you to see. My poor Sage had kennel cough, ear mites and parvo. Oh boy he spent more time at the vet than he did at home those first few weeks. The broker did pay the vet expenses because I refused to bring him back for another dog. Sage lived for twelve years but he suffered health problems his whole life. heart murmur, hypothyroid, chronic ear problems, and, cherry eye in both eyes.
It breaks my heart to think how my baby lived before he came home with us.

there is a special place in HELL
for those "people" who do such cruel things to animals. To breed a female until she has no life left is unacceptable! To let these BYB's and puppy mills churn out litter after litter is mindboggling.
As sad as it is, until each and every person REFUSES to by pups and kittens from pet shops and the like, this practice and these sad sad stories will continue. Actually not buying ANYTHING from these places would push them right out of business.
I no longer by anything (toys, etc) from any place that has puppies and kittens. I guess it takes one person at a time.

New here and just read this.
Sadly I bought my dog Baxter from a pet store not realizling at the time that I was contributing to the problem of puppy mills and BYB's. He had a sister there they said wasn't "cleared by their vet" for sale and I often wonder what happened to her. It's almost scary how coincidental this story is. Baxter had kennel cough and a stomach parasite when we had him vet checked. That was nearly five years ago. Fortunately he quickly recovered and has turned out to be a great dog. Shame on these greedy people!!!
