Breeder That Doesn't Use Outside Stud or Bitch
Hi. The question I have in particular is regarding a Newfoundland although it could be for any breed. Not in the near future but in the future we are planning on getting another dog and were looking at other breeds. I started researching the Newfoundland. I found a breeder only about an hour away but haven't contacted them or anything yet. Anyway, I checked out their website and their dogs look great and they do the appropriate health testing for the breed like OFA Hip, OFA Thyroid, OFA Cystinuria, CERF'd annually and OFA Cardiac... and they look great to me besides one thing. They have 9 Newfoundlands and from what I can tell, just breed them with each other. I see no outside stud or bitch that puppies have come from. From what I understand, this is not good. I've read that it is VERY rare that you will have two dogs that compliment each other and don't have some of the same flaws. These breeders compete in conformation(and have a few champions) and obedience. Would them breeding their own dogs be enough not to consider them as potential breeders? Thanks.
*If this is in the wrong forum I'm sorry but it seemed more appropriate here than in the other pets forum.
