boy oh boy do we have some tough decisions to make. puppy went to the vet today to see what was going on with her skin because evidently it's much worse than a few spots as i first thought. she said she still has some crusty areas and other spots of baldness where the crustiness healed already (appetizing, i know). the skin scraping revealed no mange or ring worm.. but i know that skin scrapings can sometimes be wrong and a second scraping sometimes picks these things up. she said the name of [something] was found in moderate amount... she spelled it 5 times and it was still too fast for me to write down... meut...rocondia? evidently yeast was also present and the vet decided this is basically a yeast infection on the skin. the breeder isn't concerned about it, but my father-in-law's late cairn terrier had recurring yeast infections every year her entire life that had to be controlled with steroids, ultimately leading to her body basically shutting down. so i don't know how i feel about it. i told the breeder i'd consult my husband and give her my decision within a day.
on the flip side, those 4 girls from that other litter are available and only about 1.5 hours away. champion sire health checked from a good breeder, dam also health tested with clear heart and thyroid. i talked to the woman with the litter and she sent me photos. they're 6 weeks old and GORGEOUS.
so we have some tough decisions to make. why is it always my pup that has some kind of weird nonsense going on? first heart, now this? thoughts? would you continue with the 3 week old with the weird skin thing? or opt for one of the healthy pups from the other litter?
either way, come hell or high water i am seeing puppies this weekend! lol.

Go with your gut feeling! Honestly, I don't know what I would do if I was in the same situation but I think the safer thing to do would be to go with the healthy puppy with no issues. Especially after all that you have been through. Try to make your decision before you go see the puppies because once you see them..... Would you be able to meet the puppies from the other breeder as well? I would definitely find out what exactly the situation is, especially with that thing that you didn't understand and maybe even ask for a second scraping to be done?
Why can it never be easy???
I know that whatever you end up deciding it will be the right thing to do!!

hmmm i don't know..
dealing with all of this.. I would go with a healthy puppy...
There is no rush.. You know how boxers are prone to vet bills through the years.. I'd rather troubles start as late as possible.
... do you have picture of the other litter? maybe you could visit them..?

welp, i don't know if it's necessarily the right decision, but after a long talk we decided we're going to have a leap of faith and stick with puppy. i'm comfortable with the breeder and she and her vet are confident that things will clear up fine and hopefully we won't have any other issues. she said the hair is already starting to come in in some of the spots, so it sounds like everything will be alright. she's being treated with some antibiotics and a fungicide for the yeast infection. we're still going to meet them on saturday, so unless something during our visit makes me change my mind, i don't see a reason to panic over her yeast infection.
boy was that a tough decision though, with those gorgeous puppy pics in the back of my mind... already 6 weeks old and just a couple weeks shy of being ready to come home. ay yay yay! if i had the money i'd buy one from each litter haha.

....well that was short lived
So to try to ease my mind this morning about our decision, I researched yeast infections in dogs online. I kept coming up with links with hypothyroidism and worked myself into a little panic. So I researched further the specific links to yeast infections and hypo.. and of course worked myself into more of a panic. The prognosis for puppies born with hypo is poor and they rarely live to adulthood. So now I'm in full on panic. Both the parents were cleared for thyroid, but that's not to say it couldn't happen in a puppy. I came to the conclusion that this is just going to drive me insane with worry and we better not take the pup. So I contacted the breeder and thanked her for everything and told her it's better we don't take her.
Afterwards I contacted the other breeder who's got the 6 week olds and we're going to meet them on Saturday instead. These are the 2 we're considering:

i like the fawn because she has the same white spot on her nose as tuff did, but someone else is considering her also. the dark brindle got my attention right away too. truthfully though, every puppy in the litter is gorgeous.
*sigh* what a roller coaster ride.

In fact a roller coaster ride!
I'm glad you came to a decision.
Both puppies look cute!
And don't forget to take your camera

oh i will! my husband probably thinks i'm an insane hypochondriac by now, lol. a little peace of mind is what i needed though. whatever comes down the road with our puppy, we will deal with. starting life off with all these uncertainties after what we went through with tuff and then the other puppy... it'll just drive me crazy. i didn't realize hoping for a happy healthy puppy was asking so much

I can't wait to hear how things go. The 2 puppies you are visiting are both adorable. Good luck!
