Getting my first show puppy in NC
I went to the Raleigh dog show this weekend, and while I was there I met with one of the more prominent North Carolina breeders. He told me that he is supposed to get a puppy that was his pick of a litter from a stud service to his best champion. If he does get him this week, then he will be available for me. He is 8 weeks old.
I wanted to ask if anyone knows what is a reasonable price for a show puppy here in North Carolina or nearby. I want to have an idea so that if he does try to hike the price up much higher than is acceptable, I will be prepared. I am assuming that it will be within the $1,200 to $1,500 range since that is the higher end of what I have seen thus far in NC.
Any input from you all would be very helpful. Thanks!

That sounds about right for a show prospect here in NC, just from my browsing around. However, I have seen several lower quality dogs for that price and some very nice quality dogs for a bit more. What i would suggest, is if its a bit more than you expected, just ask why and judge by their response if it sounds legitimate... May i ask the name of the breeder out of curiosity?

Besides price, you need to check the pedigree of both the sire and dam. Health tests? A pup out of his best Champion doesn't mean much if the Mom is of questionable quality and yes, some (not saying this person does) "breeders" will breed to just about anyone's female for the $$$.
Just check this person out as much as he should be checking you out.

The breeder is xxxxxxxxxxxxx ( edited by moderator. Please read well the rules as we do ban people who do not follow them). I don't think he will try to hike the price up on me, but I just wanted to be prepared.
I see that you are in Greensboro. I am in Archdale. I may call on you for help from time to time!
Did you get your dogs from an NC breeder?

Don't think that is allowed.

Sorry i should have known better and i steered you in the wrong direction with that question. Anyways i believe there are several threads on here on what to look for in a breeder so you might do a search on that and read the tips. I did get mine from a breeder in NC but i didnt know much about what i was doing so it wasnt the best quality breeder. Then again it wasnt a puppy mill or anything like that so it wasnt to bad. Im usually on here a lot so i will see anything you ask.

Sorry! I completely forgot. I appreciate all of the advice, though.
