To pokernerd (Carl): I am going through the same thing as you, in fact, I called that same guy up you did, told me the same thing. Unbelievable isn't it! We want a boxer pup as a pet & companion too, do not want to buy $3,000 for one is INSANE! I even talked to some lady recently that claimed she does all health tests, but could not and would not show me proof. She said I have to take her word for her. Are you kidding me???? She was asking $1,000 - $1,200 with NO proof of health testing! I understand the aggravation. Is boxer rescue an option for you? There are also boxers in shelters, looking for homes. If we have no luck getting a pup down the road from a reputable breeder we may go that route.

To ehayes21: I totally agree with you. Kudos to you for speaking out concerning the one man that wanted to save money and supported a puppy mill!

I'm having the same problems as you
guys here in jersey. I can't even find a breeder. It's very frustrating, but
I'll keep looking- unfortunately, it's become apparent that this is going to take some time. I'll wait & search as long as I have to though- the alternatives aren't even an option.

It would be nice if the responsible breeders were a little better at communicating though. Maybe it's just a jersey thing, but I've found the communication to be quite poor, AT BEST!! I'm more than happy waiting until the breeder is ready to have another litter- 1 year, 2 years- whatever it takes. If the breeder is right, I'll wait as long as I have to- my
point is that just because they don't have puppies now doesn't mean we can't talk & hopefully set up a long lasting relationship. I know they're busy, but we all are. They're looking to better the breed & I'm looking to give one of their pups the greatest life a dog ever had. Should be a perfect match- we just have to communicate.

I am glad you are willing to wait. It will be worth it. Have you checked out some of your local dog shows? Talking to them face to face never hurts.

I totally agree! Good luck to you with your search. I will check out some dog shows too.

Just a (gentle) suggestion from someone who is involved in rescue in your area --

If you are willing to wait for a pup for as long as you need to, would you consider fostering a dog in need in the meantime? Rescues and shelters are so full in the Philadelphia area that dogs are being turned away from rescues and put down as soon as their time is up at shelters. We just received an email this morning looking for a place for a 1 1/2 year old boy to go so we could get him out of the shelter. You could get your 'boxer fix' and save a life at the same time.

I've rescued all of my dogs, including all 3 of my current boxers. I have nothing but nice things to say about the rescue process- nj boxer rescue was a fantastic experience for me. I might rescue again in the future. Sadly, the best friend I ever had died from boxercardiomyopathy. He was from rescue. This isn't to say that the rescue organization was to blame- I love the rescue organization for bringing Elliot to me in the 1st place and there's no way they could have known this. It's just that we all know that many of the rescue dogs are BYB/PM puppys. After the heartache I've been experiencing, I want to give the breeder route a long hard consideration.

Again, I support rescue 100%- just at this moment in my life, I want to explore getting a puppy from a source that can provide me full health records from their breeding stock. It's something I need to do for myself. But if the others are considering that route I can't say enough nice things about nj boxer rescue. Love them & all they do
