Rant...and a question

So back in the day when I was considering a boxer puppy, I looked at lots of breeder websites. That was actually how I found BW. There was one breeder in mahoning valley, which is where I am from. After doing some research on BW, I started to wonder if this breeder was reputable or a BYB. The dogs look good in the pictures, and from the captions you could tell they really knew and cared about their dogs. But they didn't have any show results, so I was a little leary.

So today I was going through my favorite websites and looking at the breeders pages again just because I love the puppies! They are so cute! But my fear that they are a BYB has been confirmed. They are advertising stud services with a white male! Just very disappointed.

But I do have a question after all that. What originally sparked my doubts was the number of dogs they had. How many breeding dogs would a reputable breeder have? Assuming it is just the family doing the rearing and not a kennel with other help.

Can't answer your question, but I would certainly make a phone call to them stating your opinion on this highly abhored practice. Not sure if they claim their pups to be AKC registered, but proof of this should be sent to them (AKC) as well. Nor if it would do anything. But I think the more rukus you create may teach them NOT TO CONTINUE.

In no uncertain terms, this should NOT BE DONE!!! And I am one to voice my opinion to the breeder, as well as, the AKC and any other authority that finds this incomprehensible.

Unfortunately, AKC is a registering body that doesn't care about the color of individual dogs. ABC would kick this person out if they were a member of the American Boxer Club, but otherwise has no power. So all we can do is keep spreading the word about unethical breeding practices.

As for breeding dogs in my house? I have two bitches, with one being 3.5 years old and just being bred for her first and probably only litter. The other is 11 months and has several years and lots of health tests to pass first. My guys are my pets first, which is what the majority of show breeders have in their houses. We breed for the hobby to have a new show pup. That is one reason why it is so hard for folks to find well bred puppies. Many of us, that do everything right, just don't have that many litters.

I would think a breeder would only have a couple dogs, just because it is a lot of work to show, and then rear a litter. But these people have 7 bitches and 3 dogs. I didn't think to keep track at the time, but now I am wondering how often these girls are bred. Well I guess it doesn't matter, I'm not getting a puppy from them anyway. But I will be emailing them about the white male stud!
