I want to preface this post with the fact that in no way am I attacking anyone. I am merely presenting a point of view. Obviously everyone on this forum loves boxers or they wouldn't be here. While I don't in any way agree with BYBing there is one thing that gets to me. While BYBing is not something that should be encouraged it is something that happens and there is not a whole lot that can be done about it. If people do not buy these dogs when they are puppies the chances are that they will end up at a boxer rescue of some sort. Now, I would hope that as boxer people that we all support the practice of adopting unfortunate boxers. I guess what I'm getting at here is that even though it is not recommended to get a dog from a BYB it doesn't mean that the dog is doomed. While some people have the extra money to spend on a dog, some people do not. I personally paid an average price for my guy and he is almost a year old and hasn't had one problem. I realize problems can come later in life but it can and does also happen to dogs that people pay thousands for. The whole point of my post is to just say when someone makes a comment on a post like the original one there is no need to approach it like it was. I thought this site was for support, education, and basically anything that a boxer fanatic could ever want. Next time something like this comes up don't support BYB but is there any need to attack someone who is happy about the health of their puppy?

"Not encouraged"? Certainly not. It should be condemned.

You think the responsibility sits solely with the BYBs? That's a bit of a cop out, don't you think? If ever there was a case that it "takes two to tango", the cycle of irresponsible breeding is it. Like trade in any other commodity, supply is controlled by the buyers. And as long as we're lining up to shove our money into the pockets of people like that, they'll continue to satisfy demand. It is as simple as that. You're not rescuing when you buy a puppy from a BYB or a petstore - you're doing nothing but ensuring that the next unfortunate generation is produced. The responsibility is certainly shared, and if anything rests more on the buyer.

As is the current situation. The number of dogs euthanized in the US alone enters the millions annually. Due to overpopulation. Morons breeding their pets, and those who pay them to continue doing so. The difference, however, is that one route (per your suggestion) ensures that the cycle will continue indefinitely - whilst the other (not buying) can drastically reduce the problem (even if only by 50%, that's more than a million lives a year).

Then you should read the site rules, so that you know what this site is for - rather than inventing things that happen to suit your imagination (it's not your site). Try this bit:
Quote:
Topics and behaviour inappropriate on this site include:
- Discussion of breeding practices that would be deemed by most to be unethical or irresponsible.
This is not the site to come to if you want to promote that sort of irresponsibility.

It is one thing to know no better (though it doesn't exactly indicate a great deal of thought put into purchasing a pet). But when you do know the impacts - on overpopulation, shelters and euthanasia and the degradation of the health of the breed (which itself ends in thousands spent - or unhealthy dogs abandoned) - and go right ahead anyway, you're certainly an equal partner in the backyard breeding cycle. A full contributor to the problem.
