OMG!! Scout is Diesel's brother!!! I guess this makes us related (haha) At least now Max knows where his Uncle is. Daisy would also be his Aunt since she is a full sister to Diesel and Scout (same parents different litter).

Aren't they just the best!!!

I just found out that a pet puppy from Iggy will be around $650.00. I think that is what I paid for Diesel and then either $650 or $700 for Daisy. Either way I think it is very reasonable as I know she does all the health testing and this litter was born by c-section. Hope this helps!!

This is great! I always wondered if maybe someone on this board had a dog from the same breeder - even better that they are related.

Kaybies Mom: I just got another e-mail from the breeder she said if you put Diesel's name in the subject line she will know who you are and get back to you!!

Hope she has what you are looking for!! Good luck in your search!!

Max's Mom: I think it's great that you got Max from the same breeder. I knew someone on this board had to have a relative of my dogs!! She is a great breeder and her dogs are wonderful. Can't wait to see more pictures of Max and hear some goofy stories about him!!

I could tell you what happened last night. I've named it the 2am bunny story. I'll start another thread on that.

Our pup has been tested as well as her parents, they live locally and we have met them both and seen all their credentials. Her mother has many champions in her blood line as well as her father. Our AKC papers prove it. So you CAN get a quality boxer with champion lines under $1000. We paid $650 for our female. Some of the pups in the litter went for $850.

Your pup, according to your signature, isn't even a year old. SAS by auscultation isn't done until 12 months, doppler is usually done at 2 years. Holters aren't normally done until 12 months. And hips, if you use OFA, aren't done until 2 years of age. So what tests are you referring to?

Great. Your AKC papers say her parents were champions. That's a validation of visible/outer characteristics. That's not a validation that they don't have heart/thyroid/hip defects that are genetically inheritable. There are plenty of dogs from "champion bloodlines" with these problems.

Sure you CAN. Many BYB buy puppies from show breeders, turn around and breed those pet puppies and advertise them as champion bloodlines....and sell them for under $1000.

GoCougs-

I don't doubt that you know your stuff! You wouldn't have been granted a moderator if you hadn't shown your knowledge and that you are worthy of this title. I have enjoyed your advice all the while we have been members and have agreed with you most of the time. This just seemed to be such a generalization that I couldn't not reply.

Since you made the statement about reputable breeders and quality boxers, all I was doing was responding to your statement. I am no expert, nor do I profess to be. I don't doubt that YOU DO KNOW all the details and the specifics of determining what is quality. That is why when you give advice, I wouldn't be surprised if most members take it at face value.

We did view the parents' medical records for all hereditary concerns as you have listed below; we wouldn't have purchases Leila if we saw anything of concern. We also see and know the same vet that the parents use and so all records have been validated. In addition, when we first got Leila we had her checked out by multiple vets for the typical puppy exam. I recognize tht this is just an "exterior" exam, but in any case, we wanted to be sure so that if we needed to give her back with any immediate signs that were not good, we could do so. I understand that the tests that you were referring to don't usually take place until the age of 2 and some at over the age of 12 months and our pup is only 1 yr. I wasn't referring to those tests of our pup, I was referring to those tests of the parents. I must not have written that correctly. I am aware that champion blood lines can have these heredity problems, but I was trying to say that ours didn't. Just because we got her for $650 doesn't automatically make her bred by a BYB. That's a pretty general statement.

Please remember that you live around the Seattle area, we live in the Vancouver area. The $400-$850 is not uncommon in this market. If they are show quality then the price is more, obviously. We also did research on pricing and what was realistic for this market and how that related to the quality of the boxer. There are breeders who charge more in this market, but not many and they are not necessary better breeders. Pricing can be different in different markets, that is what many on this thread have posted.

We did not get Leila from a BYB, the breeders are very reputable in the Portland/Vanc. area and they also own a natural pet store and a local grooming service. We see them at least once a month as well as the other dog owners from the litter. They are very well known in this area and have a fabulous reputation...essentially, if you didn't get your pup from them, then there isn't much else anyone will say about other breeders of boxers. If they were a BYB do you think they would be so well respected in the community and so accessible if they were shady? Coincidently, the breeder is attending a show next week to seek a new Sire for a 2nd litter with the Dam. Both of the candidates are American and Canadian champions and they are very cautious.

On a final note, we didn't purchase Leila to be a show dog or perfect. We purchased her with the following criterion: to have a healthy pup with a good blood line, wonderful temperment and a great family pet just like most boxer owners. After much research of breeders, 2 years I might add, we found this breeder and found our baby.

I hope that we can move on from this topic, I think everyone has got the idea. Again, when it comes to the specifics, I am confident that you know more than we do.

I'm not attacking you, so I certainly am sorry if you interpreted it that way. I'm just trying to set realistic expectations for anyone who is looking for puppies in our area. It's important that people know what to look for and how much they can expect to spend.

I don't doubt that you paid what you paid for your puppy, I just find it to be unusually low for this area. When I say this area that is both Seattle and Portland/Vancouver. They aren't different markets at all.

I know quite a few breeders in both cities, and what most breeders ask for their puppies. It's very often more than what you paid, so you got yourself a pretty good bargain. I stand by my previous statement, and that is, all expenses considered, it's hard to break even charging what you paid.

Talking

The breeder has posted a picture of the puppies on her website!! They are so cute, really makes me want another one!!!

Kaybies Mom if she doesn't get back to you right away, don't worry. I know she is making sure all the puppies are doing well before she contacts people. I will be contacting her later today to tell her how Daisy does in her intermediate class (today is her final exam). I will make sure she got your e-mail!!

She emailed me back yesterday and apologized for not getting back to me previously. Everything about her sounds great but she isn't planning another litter for quite a while. And she said her next litter will most likely be all brindles and I was hoping for a flashy fawn. She said the soonest she will have a fawn is near 2008. I don't want to wait that long. So now I'm not sure what to do. Do you know if she might be able to refer me to a breeder she might work with? I haven't written her back yet. I saw the puppies on her website and they look adorable. I wish there were individual pics of them rather than just the pile of puppies =)
