Kitty on "house arrest"
Saw this on our local news. Seems as if this kitty is on "house arrest"..read on:
http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=4693854
I personally believe that cats should also not be able to roam. (yes, I do have cats..they are indoor ONLY) Before getting my kitties and after I have countless scratches on my vehicles, my foundations smells like cat "spray", countless litters of kittens being born and raised on my property, they harrassed Blizzy, killed birds at my bird feeders and not to mention why do I have to pick up other people's cats poo in MY yard so that I can insure my dogs don't get anything from the poo?!! If it were MY dog in their yard pooing, my dog roaming free in the neighborhood or my dog scraching a vehicle you can bet Animal Control would be called! Double standards..grrrrr. Ok off my soapbox.

This I like to see. The woman deserved to be reprimanded in some way, after all she is "responsible" (and I do use that term lightly!) for the cat. Too bad she will not accept WHY she is being punished...twit!!
I agree with you about the double standards. None of these actions would be acceptable if it were coming from a dog, and in fact a dog would have been destroyed, no if's and's or but's!! I am so sick of hearing people say that a cat could never do the damage a dog can (physically), yet I witnessed a large lump grow under my mothers arm from a cat scratch. Then I witnessed her having to go through surgery to remove it. Then I witnessed her pain and her anxiety from receiving nerve damage around her elbow from the surgery!! Cat scratch fever is real people!! And the culprit cat WAS a house cat, so forget the myths that it only can come from stray/feral cats!
I'm right there with you Donna....GRRRRRR! *stepping off my soapbox too*

Oh, I hope I didnt come accross as implying ONLY ferral/strays can spread illness etc. The cats I am speaking of are homed cats (that is they aren't strays they do have "owners" who feed and house them etc).
I have a friend that was bitten/scratched by a cat w/a home and lost 2 fingers due to it! My beef is that cats have a free ticket to roam/poo/pee/destroy etc property with NO reprocussions. But let it be a dog (mine or anyone elses) there would be reprocussions..let a dog attack 3 people and do damage..nighty nighty doggie (pun intended)..they'd put that dog down fast. But since its a kittie..ohh well thats ok..
so i stepped back ON the soapbox..getting offf it again

Sorry Donna, you did not imply that at all. That was just me on my soap-box sounding off on certain "myths" about domesticated and stray cats, point being that domesticated cats can be just as destructive as a stray.
My biggest beef on the whole "cats wandering the streets" thing is that I have to pay every year to have my dogs live in the city, even though they are in my house and do not have the freedom that cats do...could you imagine if they did??!! PLUS, it costs more for a license if the dog is not fixed, yet almost guaranteed 99% of the cats roaming the streets are not fixed! Double standards indeed!

There are 6 cats on my street alone that wander all over the place - all the time! I know where each and every one of them belong, which makes it worse because then I know who the owners are and when I see them I wanna tell them so bad to contain their cats. They all poop and pee in my front flower bed and of course when Beau is out front with me I have to watch him like a hawk because he will eat the poop. My across the street neighbor is the worst. Her cat sneaks into my house, sprays everything in my garage....just a real nuisance! And she made a comment one day that "Rollie owns this neighborhood" (Rollie is her cat).....uummm NO!!

I heard about this too and I agree that cats should be kept at home for their own safety if nothing else. I lived for a long time in Dutchess County, NY and during that time I had Jake along with two cats. My cats never went outside...we had quite the coyote population.

Ummm...no, Rollie does not OWN the neighborhood...the tax payers do!! I wouldn't be afraid to tell anyone if I knew it was their cat being a nuisance on my property! Next time the cat is destroying things on your property, trap it and turn it into the humane society. If Rollies' owners want him back, they'll have to pay. If that happens enough times, maybe they'll get a clue!

i saw it on the news last night. my cats are also indoor for their own protection and for the consideration of my neighbors, i did lose a cat to a car years ago(he ran out when the door opened and got hit later that night coming home from across the street) i heard the car hit rocket and the woman stopped and the poor lady was so distraught it was a horrible site and if that women who ownthe cat in question doesnt think its right then maybe should she not own a cat after all. if she really loved him she would go out of her way to protect him from outside life on the streets.
