Neighbours house caught fire---dog was only one inside

I was sitting here in my room about a half hour ago and I could hear fire trucks...and thats no unusual thing here because the apartment building beside my house always has false alarms...but the trucks kept coming so I looked out my window and saw them in a different parking lot so I opened the window and smelled smoke. My dad thought it was my uncles house and I thought it was this lady whos kids i used to babysit's house. SO we took a drive over there and I saw them at the lady house and ran out of the car to the house. As I was running I saw them drag a body out of the house and start doing cpr in the lawn. As I got closer I saw a girl I know and asked if they wer eok and hwo they were doing cpr on. She told me it was the dog, Rocko. I started to cry and walked closer to the lawn, all the way to the fence...5 feet from this dog and I wanted to badly to help because im in school to be a vet tech, but in all honesty i didnt know what to do other than keep him warm and check his vitals an the color of his gums etc. Well the dog was breathing and I didnt have my stethescope with me so theres really nothing i could do. The fire men had their coats wrapped around him and were petting him and had a tube down his nose. No one was home, they had gone out of town this morning for Christmas.

A few minutes later, I see Rocko's eyes open and her started to cry so they picked him up and moved him, this was my Christmas miracle. I left bewcause I couldnt stand the cold an I cam ehome and my mom tried to contact the family, but they had their cell phone turned off. Now all I can do is pray that Rocko makes it through. But I havent seen the Humane society come to pick him up yet..thats what they do when theres a fire and the ppl of the house get hurt or are gone, th ehumane society takes them and looks after the muntil someone comes to pick them up. And the fire trucks are stil out there, so Im hoping Rocko didnt take a turn for the worse.

Keep him in your prayers, Ill update you when I know

Well Ive got good news and bad news. Good news is Rocko is ok. The lady just called my house and told my mom that he was ok and he ws at the Humane Society. Bad news is, the fire started in the living room, and thats where all their gifts were so they dont know if the presents are ok. Most of the damage is smoke damage and water damage, and her living room furniture is ruined apparently it started in the sofa. All of her windows in the downstairs are broke too.

Im just glad that Rocko is ok.

As long as the fur baby is fine, all the gifts can be replaced, a member of the family can not. I'm so glad Rocko is alright.

Wow! What a terrible thing to be so close to. Such a relief to read the Rocko is okay. I hope the family will be able to have a Christmas in July or something along those lines! They will all be in my prayers.

They are still out of town and wont be back until tuesday which kind of upset me because if my dog had just died and beem brought back to life, id be home asap. But then I saw the state of the house, theres no windows downstairs, they were all busted out and they have nowhere to go. Rocko is at the Humane Society until they get back and they have someone there all day because they have the emergency drivers there all night. He's going to make a full recovery.

Im very thankful for those fire men and all they did for him.

Unhappy

This is so very sad. I pray Rocko makes a speedy recovery. Material goods can be replaced, but family can't.

Wow Shannon, you've sure had your share of tragedies this year haven't you?! I'm so glad that Rocko is okay. I always worry that something like that will happen when I'm gone. I'm so glad he's ok.

Unfortunately, the family lost all their gifts and most of the stuff in the house is damaged by smoke. They also cant get Rocko out of the Humane Society because they have nowhere to put him. Now theyre staying with relatives.

Someone has offered to pay the boarding/vet bills that rocko racked up at the humane society and I think that when my work opens again (a community center in the neighbourhood), we're going to put out a donations jar to help them get back on their feet.
