I would fall into the "lunatic" catagory too!!! This is an interesting thread as we just talked to my FIL who took his 19 year old cat to the vets cause she had a "growth" on her side. Several years ago the growth began but it was benign (SP?) so the vet said she was too old for anestesia (SP?) if it wasn't completely necc and that the growth did not represent a health hazard. Well in the last few years the growth has become HUGE and Winnie has begun chewing it etc so it became infected. Long story short, Dad paid $750.00 to have a growth removed from a 19 year old cat. In his words, she has been a family member for 19 years, and for that 19 years she has been a loyal family member, I owe it to her to make her as comfortable as possible in her last years. The vet siad she was in good enough health for the anestisia and that b/c she was chewing it was becomming infected he'd do the surgery. Boy did that warm my heart and remind me of why I am so lucky to be a part of Kens family!
