blah......

ok so I know I should be grateful of all the wonderful things i have in life but I am totally in a slump and need to vent.

First off - rocky got really sick last week so that was $$

Then the packers lose....which is causing me to be severely cranky and in a bad mood constantly as I am a HUGE packers fan. If you are a giant fan - good for you - but don't even talk smack because it will just irritate me more. That's not why I came on this.

Then I get told that I am denied short term disability insurance which i was trying to start so that we could think about starting to have a human child . But....got the letter today, on my birthday, that i've been denied. So i guess I can never have babies.....

WHY.... Seriously life sucks right now. I had a bad day at work with stupid patients all day and then I'm sick of everyone asking "oh what are you doing for your birthday?" - umm i'm doing nothing - because I am 27, not 15. I'd love to take an amazing all inclusive trip somewhere but again, we are broke, so that is not possible. and it sucks because i feel like that is exactly what I need right now...just to get away for awhile.

Sorry about the rant.

blah. I think this may be the WORST birthday I've ever had. getting older sucks.....

I need positive vibes and something GOOD to happen...preferably soon!!

Does anyone have any suggestions of something fun I could do for my birthday that does not cost money? Anyone?! I'm running low on ideas. I'm sure DH will be home soon with absolutely nothing for me too...since he's a real charmer

Hope you guys had a better day than I did today

I am not familiar with the area you live in so I cannot offer much insight on things to do. Just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday and I hope your luck turns around soon. I have endometrosis and have not been able to have children either so I know where you are coming from. It sucks but I guess there is a reason for everything. Try to focus on the positives and have a good night

I am sorry you are having such a bad day and on your birthday to boot. I wish I could make a suggestion as what to do, but I'm sure you're temps are probably too cold for a picnic, as you are further north than I am, and it is freakin' cold here!

If I could I would bring you a cake and flowers, and gift you a day at the spa. However, my finances aren't in great shape now either. (3 Words- remodel from hell.)

Oh wait...If I remember correctly, I saw a fireplace in the background of pics of Rocky. Build a fire, open a bottle of wine and have and in home picnic! It's not much, but it's the best idea I can think of right now.

And as for stupid patients, it could have been worse. My BIL was admitted to the hospital today because the calcium in his blood was extremely high. He is mentally challenged, (IQ about 72) and has been babied his whole life (43 yrs). He still throws temper tatrums that can rival a toddler. My MIL has elected to stay the night with him at the hospital. She is one of those people who has to know everything you are doing, and it must be explained in detail. Also if you ask her a yes or no question she will NEVER answer just yes or no. She will expain why it is yes or no before even telling you what the answer is. Just imagine how much more challenging your day would be if you had them!

I hope your day gets better!

Sorry you are having such a terrible day.
Happy B-day by the way!

I am confused though....you said you were denied disability but you had a bad day at work? How can one get disability but still work? Not to get in your business just curious (not the specifics more of a general thing).

I don't ever get anything from my DH in the way of a birthday present or any other gift giving holiday/event so I can't be much help there! And it irritates the heck out of me when people say "Go out to dinner for your birthday!".
That TO ME is lame since I don't know....one has to eat anyhow and I don't think it is really a "celebration" to sit down and have a meal. Now I am starting to vent!

I know how being a sports fan of a losing team can be frustrating. I am a huge Ohio State Buckeye and Bengals fan. Enough said about that!

Your still young enough to not be so old and crotchety (like I am!!). I took Raine for an extra long walk on MY birthday and enjoyed her company and told myself the whole time that her happy spirit was all the present I needed.

Rocky feeling better IS a pretty darn good present! I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

First off- Happy birthday! I'm sorry it was such a lousy day, but hopefully has gotten better by this point. Birthdays at this age (I'm only a year older than you) are such a cr@pshoot, too old for the "go out drinking and be crazy", but still young enough to want to do something to celebrate. Maybe this weekend have some friends over for wine and snacks? Or do a game night with friends (assuming you have more friends than I do).

Why were you denied short term disability? That seems so odd to me, can you try through another company (mine is not thru work, is thru our homeowners insurance provider) instead? And honestly, I don't have maternity leave coverage and we are having a baby any day now...took some planning and saving to cover the lack of income, but it is definitely possible.

Stupid patients suck, especially if you're having a bad day already.

Being broke also sucks, but seems to be norm as an adult. I remember wondering why my parents worked so much and never had any money....makes perfect sense now. Do you take any money out to spend on yourself regularly? DH and I each take 5% of our pay and it's our "fun" money, I do dog competitions, he buys stuff on ebay and goes target shooting. Making it a regular thing keeps us from depending on that money for bills and keeps us sane as well. Otherwise, we'd never do anything for ourselves and go crazy/angry (obviously this is after paying bills, contributing to savings/retirement).

Wish you were closer so I could show up with a present and surprise you. ((hugs))

Sorry you are having a "blah" kinda birthday

......but at least you are still under 30! I am turning 32 this year and I have to tell you, it ain't getting easier! My birthday is in March and dh and I were planning on going to RI for the weekend (where we lived before moving to ME and where most of my friends are) but now dh has told me that he is going to a concert in Portland (ME) instead (Jane's addiction - according to him this is a once in a lifetime chance to see them). So it will just be me and the dogs going to RI, hanging with my friend and her Boston Terrier Cheeto and going to the 19th annual RI pet show which will be fun

.....and you always have those cute rescue dogs at your house which I'm slightly jealous about Maybe you could take care of some cute puppies for a few days, I'm sure that would cheer you up

Fun activities that don't cost money usually involve the dogs for me, going for a long walk, a hike or the beach. I hope you still got to do something fun yesterday

Happy Birthday

Oh Lauren, it's ok..............Happy Birthday

I had a pretty surly crowd when I got into work(mostly men) about the Packers. Yeah, it sucks, but hey they had a awesome season and that says alot. So I wasn't sad or upset about it.

I don't get much from DH either. Oh well, we're married 19 years this year and honestly he always acknowledges the day with a card, but a present anymore..no. And for us, why? When we need something we buy it together and we each do our own thing and when I want something pretty or new I just go get it...if there's any money to buy it. This year for my bd he did take the time and found a Boxer card. Just the thought that he stood in a store to look for a card is saying alot. He is a manly, hunting, no BS kind of guy and he hates anything to do with going into a store (yes, even Fleet and Farm) or going out to eat.

Here's a good one, everyone loves hearing this story. One year for Christmas I woke up to this really big box under the tree and I thought wow what could be in the box. Well the box was sitting on top of a large old towel and I thought that was odd. As I was starting to open the big box I noticed some greasy spots and it smelled like oil................YUP, I got a small rototiller. So sometimes it might be better to get nothing. Yes, the rototiller gets used, mainly by DH and he has managed to bend all the blades and keeps telling me I will be getting replacement parts and attachments soon for Christmas or birthday. UGH

As for your short term disability there are sooooo many insurance companies and banks that offer that insurance. Go to your car/home insurance agent and he or she can start looking for you. Also, AFLAC, Metlife and many of those kinds offer short term too. As you may know most companies, if your buying it for maternity, want the insurance in force for 1 year prior to pregnancy.

I hope the rest of your day turned out ok. Like others have wrote, Rocky is on the mend and that is a joy and a great BD present to you.

LOVE the responses......it made me feel so much better just to vent.

so it turns out that DH DID get me something....and a really cute something. A small cupcake that had the frosting decorated as a flower on top. It was really cute. He also got me a new coffee mug and it is a 'collage' one. He said we can put pictures of Rocky in it and that way I can bring rocky to work with me every day! He also got me a large collage type frame and said he is going to help me print out pictures of all of our foster dogs and we will make a collage to put in our room! How cool! The card he said was from rocky...so i open it and it says "bacon, bacon, treats, beef, treats, bacon. Love rocky and nick". LOL! Funny...creative....made me LOL

He blew me away this year - very cute, thoughtful gifts!

As far as the disability goes - yes, where I work sounds similar to some others - I don't have any paid maternity leave. Since I bring in the majority of the income for our family it would be a huge kick to not get paid for 3 months while I am out. While we aren't ready to have a baby immediately I started looking into short term to get it started anticipating a 12 month wait period, etc. I was denied becuase of my 'back' issues. I have never had any injections, surgeries, etc....but do see a chiropractor as needed. It seems so hilarious that they denied me for that. IT's muscle spasms really - and I never have missed work because of it.

I will talk to my home owners insurance person to see if he has any other ideas about getting some coverage while I'm on maternity leave ( eventually).

Thank you all for your posts- really cheered me up!

In addition - some of my friends who foster for the rescue forced me to meet them at a bar last night. It was karaoke night and I had a blast just making fun of people.....I know that is mean and rude...but I had a great time.

So the day turned A LOT better after I posted this!

I'm glad the day turned out better than you thought it would. Sounds like DH picked out some very nice gifts for you. I have a collage mug and love bringing pics of Johann to work with me every day.

The unpaid maternity leave is lousy, that's the situation I'm in as well. I've saved up a few weeks of vacation and honestly, if we didn't have a big savings/investment acct...I would be going back to work after 6 weeks instead of 12. Honestly, kids are crazy expensive (esp. if you are doing daycare). Set up a new budget and put the "will be going towards kid/daycare cost" $$$ into a savings acct and you will be all set for leave. Or so broke that you don't want a baby anymore. : p

I hope you find a good company for disability...so weird that they disqualified you for a minor back issue. I have full coverage, including my mostly bionic/metal ankle.

Ahh Lauren wishing you a belated happy birthday, Im glad you had a good one and that your DH was so thoughtfull.

Dont talk about being broke we have just put the second of our two lads through college,I am at last thinking NOW ITS TIME FOR ME!!!!!

On my birthday last year my husbands nephew was in a plane crash thank God he survived it was a light aircraft 6 died and 6 survived with a lot of injuries so when we found out late that night that he would survive because it was touch and go for most of the day I can honestly hand on heart say that it was the best birthday present EVER, It really brought it home to me that material things are not what matters it the people that are in our life.

I am so glad your day got better, and cudos to your hubby for getting such thoughtful gifts!

As for making fun of people at karaoke, isn't that the whole reason most people go? One time my friends and I went out to karaoke, and one of the guys singing looked just like Froggy from the Little Rascals! And he didn't sound much better! He got up there 3 or 4 times. That guy made our night!

Happy Birthday!

I'm right there with you on the Packers. I swear aliens came down and took the team because those weren't my guys on the field. Good news is, they are favored to win the Super Bowl next year!
