Another news story too close to home!

Well, now another boxer is reported as "aggressive" and this time a homeowner shot it.

Police: Man Shoots Lancaster County Dog - Pennsylvania News Story - WGAL The Susquehanna Valley

Makes me wonder if he had the gun at the handy, and if so, is he licensed? If the gun was in the house and he was able to run in to get it, couldn't he have closed his dang door and was out of harm's reach? Where he then could have called the authorities?

In PA, we can only shoot someone IF they break into your house and is posing a threat. But we can shoot a dog if it's on our property just cause we are too lazy to run to someplace safe?

I am sickened by this rash of stories. Pitbulls and boxer's alike now. Where will this end? When the designer dogs are shot and there is a dog owner uproar? Truly sad.......sad.......sad......sad.

There was just another story last night from Chester County. A GSP and a lab mix disappeared from their home Sunday morning and were found later in the day, both shot in the head.

Another whackjob! My heart just hurts when I see these stories.

All I can say is "If you want a dog, treat him like part of the family. If you see a loose dog, remember there is a family he belongs to. If you hurt a dog, you hurt everyone in his family, and the community. If you kill a dog, I hope he finds you when it's time for you to die."

Both these stories are absolutely sad and should not have happened. It really shows how weak people are. You often read that people who can hurt animals with out thought is a precusor to hurting or killing people.

The DJ on the radio was talking about the Chester County incident this morning while I was driving in to work. That gave me hope that the people in this area are finally waking up and not ignoring animal cruelty...and then he said something along the lines of 'every city has issues with dog fighting, but I can't believe the number of animal cruelty cases we're seeing lately'. I fumed the rest of the way in - does he really think fighting is somewhat acceptable compared to the other cases we've had in the past few weeks? Those have included a cat wrapped in duct tape, a kitten being stoned and set on fire, injured horses, dogs doused in acid and just the other day, a woman ran over her dog - which looked deliberate based on the video's posted on YouTube.

It's possible that having Michael Vick in town is putting more of a media focus on animal cruelty stories, but people need to comprehend that there are MANY types of cruelty and that dog fighting is one of the worst.

OK, I'm stepping down off my soapbox...for now.

The thing is a boxer would prob still get excited and give licks to the person that hurt them! Thats just the way our silly babies are! id like to waiting on the other side for them to inflict serious drawn out pain

Lisa, the newspaper story was pretty vague. What exactly was the dog doing that made him think he was in danger (if you know)? Terroristic threats? So now if your dog accidently gets loose and someone is afraid of it you are a terrorist? It's funny that I don't really remember hearing that word used very much before 9/11 and now it gets used to describe just about anything.

Our tiny mentality town only prints the rough, first report, story. They never seem to print any follow-ups of "what really happened". If they do, its a 3-liner hidden between the ads for botox and a funeral home. I keep trying to research it, but I come up empty.

I have heard through the neighborhood blabbermouth, who listens to the scanner day and night, that he was working on his car while his 2 kids were playing in the yard. The boxer was at the hedges, barking and growling....the guy grabbed the kids and ran into the house. He then came back out, which by this time the boxer was in the yard now......and the guy felt threatened and he shot the dog. The dog, injured, ran to his house. When the owner saw his dog, he grabbed his baseball bat and went right to the guys house. Appearantly, they already knew of each other, so some history was there to conclude. So with the two men now, one waving a gun and the other waving a bat, continued to shout obsenities and threats to each other until a neighbor called the cops. Both were arrested for terrorist threats. The guy with the gun wants to fight the charge of unlawfully possessing and shooting a firearm. Blahdidity, blah, freakin' blah! The dog was put down from his injuries at the vets office that evening.

The guy with the gun didn't shoot the guy with the bat, but he felt more threatened by a mostlikely playful boxer. What idiots are they both? Situation where the dog is the victim of a untimely death. Makes me wonder who was the threat here? Who was the terrorist? Who was truly threatened? Who was the victim? The man with the gun also had no fore-thought of shooting that gun and the potential of killing a child five feet away.

We did have one incident when I was little of our Dad shooting 2 pit bulls. They came on to our farm and were ripping our goats apart. Literally. :-(
Another incident was somebody shooting my Labrador male in a drive by doggy shooting. I was just a couple hundred yards away.
As for the dog hiding in the bushes, that's how Allie plays. She hides behind something and and barks at Diesel until he chases her.
Just a sad story overall.
