Question Cervix cancer vaccine

Do you know anyone who has had this vaccine and responded badly?

I personally don't. Luckily for me I have boys and no girls. That would be a hard decision to make whether or not to have them vaccinated. I would want to have them protected, but the possible affects would scare the crap out of me. Just recently saw where a girl died from the vaccine. I feel for those of you with daughters, tough tough choice!

I don't know anyone who has had this vaccine. I have read up a lot on it as I have a 11 year old daughter. I have to say that if my daughter was older I still would not get her vaccinated - in my opinion the vaccine hasn't been around long enough for us to see what real effects this vaccine has, good or bad.

I don't know anyone personally who has gotten the HPV vaccine. About a month ago I decided to do a bit of research on the vaccine, and honestly I am shocked that it is still on the market. In 2008 alone the FDA reported nearly 7,000 adverse reactions to the Gardisil vaccine; roughly 15% of those reactions were reported to be "serious"; about 2% were "life-threatening." To date, there have been 47 Gardisil-related DEATHS since the vaccine was approved in 2006.

New FDA Records Obtained by Judicial Watch Indicate 28 Deaths Related to Gardasil in 2008 | Judicial Watch

My daughter is due to have it this week, but after doing my own research I've decided against it.

Firstly it is not an anti-cancer vaccine - It may help reduce your daughter's chances of catching the 2 main cervical cancers out of the 13 you can get by 70% - so even after having the vaccine you still have a 30% chance of getting it.

Overall - in the UK around 800 women are dying yearly from this, & they hope to drop this stat to 300/400. You have more chance of getting bowel or breast cancer.

This drug is far too new for me & the only way to really test this whole thing out completely is by giving it to our girls - Guinea pigs!

The vaccine only last for 4/5yrs, & no one seems to know yet if boosters will come after. They hide away stories of the girls that get sick - you have to search online for stories. If you don't do your own research all you have to go on is biased reviews that come straight from the drug manufacturers, & let's face it, we all know they only care about money!

It would be nice if they had invented a drug that stops you getting cancer, then it would be worth the risk IMO, but this vaccine makes me very unsure.

Safe sex & screening gives your girls a good chance of avoiding this, with or without the vaccine.

It's all pot luck really - you could have a vaccine that stops you getting run over by a car, & then you get run over by a bike instead!

I hope one day something concrete will be invented, something safe.

For anyone who has or who is going to let their girl have this vaccine, I hope it works out well for them. There are so many more girls that are okay from the vaccine, I'm just not willing to take the chance that my girl will be one of the 2000 odd out of the million odd that falls ill to it. x

My doctor advised me to get the gardisil vaccine and that was back when it first came out so I got it. It was a round of 3 shots that I believe were given in 6 months time. Anyways, I had no side effects and have been fine ever since. I was a little freaked out once I started hearing things on the news about it recently but I got it right when it first came out about 3 years ago. Also, one of my close friends got it and has been fine as well. Had I been hearing what they're saying now about it I might not have but at the time I didn't know much about it and talked with my doctor about it and maybe she was pushing it on me but at the time it didn't seem like a bad thing to get.

My thoughts exactly. The adverse reactions from this vaccine, no matter how statistically significant they are, are too severe IMO to justify taking the risk. Teaching SAFE SEX is a much healthier, safer option.

Not that they're old enough yet but I wouldn't have my daughters get the vaccine. More than anything you just can't stress enough the importance of yearly screenings.
