Tea

To my friends across the big pond.

What is the best tea to use to make a good cup. My ds has been looking for a good tea, we found a tea called P G. The DS said it was really good but he want me to ask the "Experts" about what tea to use and how to make a good cup.

He was reading on line and from one of the universities in England, a guy said to truly enjoy a good hot mug of tea, "one must take a walk in inclement weather for 1 mile, be chilled throughly, come home brew a pot, then it would be most enjoyable." LOL

thanks

Jim

It's hard to beat a wee cup of tea

It's all down to personal preference but for a normal cup of tea we use Tetley tea bags.

For Earl Grey (my favourite tea) only Twinnings tea bags will do.

If you want a caffeine free tea Redbush is nice.

Loose tea does taste much nicer than tea bags though, and you just have to keep trying different ones to find some you really like. I've been drinking a redbush with earl grey and redbush with lemon which are delicious.

If we're being lazy we put one tea bag in the cup and pour over hot water but tea does taste better made in a tea pot. Experiment with how many tea bags you put in the pot to get a strength you like - there is a saying about one bag per person and one for the pot - better to have warmed the tea pot first though.

If you try loose tea leaves there are lots of different gadgets to put the leaves in which are easy to use so it's not too much hassle.

Since we're on the subject of tea, I've heard the reference "tea time", so I'm wondering is there a specific time of day when you all have your tea? Just curious!

The favourite in our house is Dilmah tea, plus Twinings Earl Grey, and the occasional peppermint tea{with a square or 2 of dark chocolate}yum, yum
It is better brewed in a pot,but usually it's a teabag in a cup.
Anytime's a good time for a good cuppa

I agree, loose tea is much better than bagged tea. After drinking loose tea for a while, you really do start to taste a difference.

The only bagged tea I care for is the Earl Grey they sell at Harrod's in the UK.

PG tips is fine for an everyday cup of tea and is a popular brand over here.
But if you want to get serious about tea and don't mind a little bit more work and time then loose tea is better usually.

Personally I've been drinking just green tea (no flavours added) or a green tea/black tea blend 60%G/40%B (it's cheaper)- but I drink it withOUT milk and sugar - bucket loads a day.

This might be of interest:

Thanks for the tips "jeffbotteril" He enjoys a good cup, Me I prefer it Iced with lemon and sugar.

PG Tips is my favourite tea
I have loose tea in the house but always end up with a mouthful of it *blah* I also love lemon & lime tea from Whittards. Earl Grey is too sickly after a while for me but I do like it occasionally.
Tea time here now refers to dinner time, I'm sure at one time it menat to sit down with a cuppa but usually it means dinner time.

"but always end up with a mouthful of it *blah*" The DS and DW use a small wire strainer (it is for tea) and it gets the leaves out of the tea. The DW has more gadgets for cooking and stuff. LOL

I use PG tips here but when my mum comes over she takes Barry´s tea with her. Its an irish brand and as always she takes the biggest box she can find, so I´m always left with some.
Also anything can be sorted out over a cup of tea. Tea has to be one of the most popular beverages in Ireland after Guinness
